librisrouge
I've always been a Cadian man, from the word go. I've never quite understood, and still don't, the vehement hatred for the Cadian models that some people seem to want to have. Lately though, I've been thinking about Tallarn. I like their fluff, I like their models, and if the new book has anything based on Combat Tactics then I'll probably like their rules. I already field Al'rahem a great deal of the time as well. What I'm considering doing is selling all of my Cadians, and probably my fantasy army as well since I never get to play that, and load up on some Tallarn miniatures (especially while the squad is $40 from GW.) Do you guys think that this would be viable?BTW, I have something like 200 Cadians in various states of repair and paint, plus an unopened Battleforce and 20 Heavy Weapon teams. Plus, a fully playable Empire army. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285387-switching-ig-types/ Share on other sites
hendrik
i believe forgeworld also had tallarn infantry squads however i can't find those back. only snipers and heavy weapon teams. istead of just selling them all off, how about starting a mixed regiment? so adding the tallarn to the army while still keeping enough models to get a few games in? on the other hand rumour has it we might get a new codex in march, perhaps it may be worth waiting to see what release that will bring? cypherthefallenangel
One word. EBAY... You'll save a small fortune on the tallarn minies. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285387-switching-ig-types/#findComment-3564076 Share on other sites
Kierdale
Why not keep the Cadian models but repaint them in desert camo? Buy Tallarn forces to go with them? The Tallarns, thanks to Al'rahem, outflank as your specialist guerilla platoon while the 'Cadian's are your line troops. Best of both worlds. WarriorFish
I agree with all that's been said, Tallarn are great and if they had plastic models I'd be desperately fighting the urge to collect a whole new Guard army. I'm not surprised to find hate on the Cadian models but this is the internet where the standard (Cadian, Ultramarine etc) gets hate because some people are idiots. Presumably they're special little snowflakes with their army and the fact some people like the "poster boys" somehow ruins their enjoyment of life. By selling your two armies off you'd certainly get enough money to get a Tallarn force with clever purchases but I wonder if it might be a lot of work and take a long time - potential costs aside. I've seen some great desert camouflage schemes on Cadian models so maybe like hendrik and Kier said you should work towards a combined army to start with? You never know GW might release plastics (part of me prays this never happens for the sake of my wallet and shelf space )? So my advice would be sell the Empire force first and start collecting some Tallarn to supplement your Cadian force while keeping an eye out for what GW is doing. I'm always on the lookout for rumours so keep an our on the Guard section where someone will report anything noteworthy for the community It might be a long journey due to the time it may take to acquire the models for a good price and you're basically building a new army but it will be worth it! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285387-switching-ig-types/#findComment-3564314 Share on other sites
walter h
I am with everyone in keeping your current force ,but augmenting with Tallarn, until you gain a full force. I would also point out that you have enough spares to convert your force to match whatever force you want. A new paint scheme could be what you need. librisrouge
Strangely, I was going to paint the Tallarn in an urban scheme I might just follow WarriorFish's advice and just sell the fantasy for now (haven't used them in a year) and use that to start a Tallarn platoon. Kierdale
Urban schemed Tallarn? That I would like to see! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285387-switching-ig-types/#findComment-3565040 Share on other sites
Sviar
I too would give you the advice to wait until march and se what GW releases. but this is the internet where the standard (Cadian, Ultramarine etc) gets hate because some people are idiots. Presumably they're special little snowflakes with their army and the fact some people like the "poster boys" somehow ruins their enjoyment of life. Haha That is hilarious, it made my day. And for the record I also prefer Cadian models. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285387-switching-ig-types/#findComment-3565233 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
I've seen woodland camo Tallarn and they looked fantastic - it is the model that is good not just the paint job but like Kier I've never seen urban Tallarn so I would love change that! It's a bit like how you almost always see Space Wolves on snow bases. Don't forget to keep us appraised of your progress, you've gathered too much interest not to! Kierdale
If Al'rahem makes it into our next Codex and still outflanks his platoon I'll be having him and them in my own army eventually. Have always wanted to do some Tallarn models not in camo but rather as a nomadic bunch of warrior-traders, clad in flashy silks riding goods-laden, tent-topped chimeras or something similar. Probably won't ever get around to doing it! :D That or as genestealer cultists! Durus
Puppetswar recently released these Desert Trooper heads. Might come in handy for the odd conversion here and there. Though FW does sell tank commanders and heavy weapon teams, you probably still have loads of cadian bits left over you could use. Might be useful for building banner bearers, medics, vox operators or weapon specialists (I don't see GW selling these anymore) as well. I really like what Puppetswar does, I like their stuff - my only gripe with them is their scale. The heads they make are just a tad overlarge for my tastes. It's entirely subjective I suppose, and maybe its not every line. I know the heads I got from them were just, a little too bobble-head for my tastes. Just some to consider I guess, most of their stuff looks really great, and the quality is alright. librisrouge
Might have to look into some of those heads and just put them on Cadian bodies. Not many people would complain about them being "Tallarn enough" with that going on. I'll keep you guys abreast but I don't paint/convert very often so it might be some time (also just started a 2nd Master's degree and got elected the head of my school's data team, I'm going to miss time.)
