Envoy
Found me a rather knackered one of these in a charity shop for £2.50. I took one look at it and thought space marine flyer but im not sure which one it should be hence why i am posting here for input :). Can post better photos when i have taken them later if needed, just googled this one. http://www.toplessrobot.com/nightraven2.jpg To give you an idea of scale for 40k the red vents on the side from left to right is the same length as a standing space marine scout. A quick run down of what this thing has/has not got/does currently - What it does not have The rear top and side wings are missing as are the shootable missiles. The cockpit goes up and down via that flap on top, it doesn't close flush however. I think this can easily house 3 seated space marines or possibly a walk in cockpit. The crappy landing gear (which in my opinion is going to go) go up and down into the hull. When you cock the neck of the jet (like a shotgun) the missile barrels rotate. (going to convert into chain guns?) And finally the other thing that makes it pure awesome... ... it has electronics :D Makes sounds when buttons on the top are pressed but the best part is a trigger that comes out of the bottom of the hull that when pressed makes lights go on next to the missile launcher and makes pew pew noises. Now if that won't make some waves on the tabletop i will be surprised. :) So what i really want to ask all of you is if you think this is a) a good idea, b) how to go about doing it (i need to know what it would really need to be obviously space marine for actual tabletop games), and c) ... well there i couldn't think of a c) heh. So any feedback, criticism, input, ideas would be fantastic. Also if you guys do like the idea would you like to see an in progress step by step guide/timeline/thingy on it? Thanks for reading Your friendly neighborhood Envoy :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285447-space-marine-flyer-conversion/ Share on other sites
MedPig
Scale isn't an exact thing with GW models, anyway. If it LOOKS close enough, and isn't Thuderhawk size, it should work as some sort of flyer. Could be cool. "Gothic" it up a bit, paint it up as some sort of AdMech piece, and it should be fine. Hey, it's your army, play what you want. Just don't expect to walk into a GW Tournament with it, and you're fine. But in "Fun" games at the local FLGS, you'd be fine. Shadespyre
Nice model! Could you stick it next to some GW stuff so we can see the scale and style comparison? I like the angular look of it, but I think Space Marine flyers tend to be short and squat and bulky where this is pretty slim at the moment. My first impression is it needs either a lot of engine pods and fins at the back end, or a big delta wing behind the cock pit, or both. Depends on whether you want it to look like a "proper" aircraft or a brute force flyer, and on whether you see it as a transport, a gun ship, an interceptor or whatever. To GW-ise it, that's part paint job and part bits. Obvious things like chapter badges aside, could you use some parts from the official flyers and vehicles to tie it into the WH40k style? If you read White Dwarf articles about mini design, they always talk about carrying key visual cues from model to model, so look at other SM models and see what makes them look similar... and then nick that! Envoy
Thanks for the input guys. Yeah i don't really expect to even enter any tournaments that are 'official' really. But fun games deffo. The fact i am having a female blood angels army would annoy enough people to prevent that anyway heh. And as for scale photos here are 2 with a standard SM http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f246/Envoy360/Mobile%20Uploads/Warhammer1.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f246/Envoy360/Mobile%20Uploads/warhammer2.jpg and yes i know its on a winnie the pooh blanket, i have a 7 month old :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285447-space-marine-flyer-conversion/#findComment-3565823 Share on other sites
Memento Of Prospero
The Winnie the Poo blanket is awesome. My only problem with this is that it doesn't have the boxy look of space marine crafts. It has the sleek look of a Tau flyer to me. Kierdale
With a bit if work I think it could look excellent. I doubt I could have resisted buying that for a mere two pound fifty either ! Paulochromis
it looks like its about twice the length of a storm raven. if you mount it on TWO flying bases, then you can tell your opponent to use the front half as the counts as 'raven, and that the back end is just for show (like the Renault Megane) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285447-space-marine-flyer-conversion/#findComment-3565957 Share on other sites
Envoy
Was thinking about making it more boxy looking ala space marines as your right it does look a bit too tau at the moment. But as a base to work on its brilliant. Also i was thinking about making it a thunderhawk gunship as that is the biggest gunship going measuring 480mm long, this model is 520mm so i am thinking that is probably best. Honda
I think it's rather cool looking. Do you know what the manufacturer is or what it is called? I'm wondering if Amazon carries it. I think that it's a little bit of a stretch for a SM flyer, though it could be used. I think the paint scheme would definitely help. My first thought though was as Inquisitor Eisenhorn's Gun Cutter. Envoy
Its a gi joe cobra night raven 2008 model. I know its a stretch but with a little plasticard and parts from other kits it can be space marine'd up. Considering my army is going to be a unique female marines chapter (i care not about fluff its a fictional universe anyway) no reason why they wouldn't have more curvy ships? Shadespyre
Well if it's as big as a Thunderhawk, that's the direction to go in :) And hell yeah, your army, your rules. And I want to see how you're doing ladymarines! (Marinettes? Marinesses? Whatever!)
