Are Sicarans Auto-Include?

Recommended Posts

I'm beginning to believe that they are out at least one on a list. However I'm tempted to bring a pair and a contemptor mortis as well. How do you full your heavy support slots with a sicaran? Dual predator executioners +Sicaran? Dual Sicaran + ???

Hmmm well I had my Betrayal list heavy support slots full with the following, before the Sicaran came out:

2 x Predators (1 dakka, 1 executioner)

3 x Whirlwinds

1 x Vindicator

They fitted my mech list (Ironwing) fine.

The Sicaran Venator is the start of my smaller second FOC, which will be a rapid response team kind of thing, designed specifically to take out enemy armour, with everything moving fast.

The problem I now find, should I add a second Sicaran (battle tank).

Strangely was thinking a contemptor mortis in a drop pod would be a good addition also.

Oh it's fun changing up one's lists based on the cool figures coming out!

The problem I see with the Sicaran is it takes a Heavy Slot. One single tank. In a game where you can take squadrons of tanks. With no transport capacity at all. I suppose if you're running an army that relies on speed or something, it could be really good.

Awesome firepower, but it's still a kinda fragile tank.  From the front, it's no tougher than a Predator.  Single tank per heavy support is a bit of a drawback in 30k.  Autocannon Predators are actually a pretty good bargain in comparison, they're not quite as good in all respects (fire on the move/mobility, firepower, and protection), but it's a difference of degrees.  Two of them with lascannon sponsons is 250 points, but it brings 6 HP of AV13, 4 lascannons, and 8 autocannon shots.  A Sicaran with Lascannon sponsons is 175 points, 3 HP of AV13, fast, 2 lascannons and 6 TL rending autocannon shots.  The rending autocannon is a great advantage, but so is having twice the lascannons and hull points, and not losing everything to a single explodes result.

Of Massacre? That would be the issue, I don't have my copy on me :(

Edit: just checked Betrayal, you're right. Only ever noticed Phobos Land Raider... That changes everything. I'd still rather take a Land Raider Squadron or even just Predators... The Sicaran suffers from the same problem the Vindicator does, and that's the fact that it uses an entire slot for one tank.

I hadn't spotted it either until fairly recently.  Anything that takes some pressure off Heavy Support is huge.  I'm really hoping that the VIIth somehow get access to Vindicator squadrons.  I want to field 4 Vindicators and 2 Medusas (I'm partial to ordnance).  I've also always loved the idea of a 10 man Volkite Culverin Heavy Support Squad (doing the math on their damage output makes me feel dizzy - marines in 3+ cover - 10 dead, imperial guard out of cover - 40 dead).  Maybe if we get to take Heavy Support Squads as troops for our unique Rite of War like the XIVth do.  If Sicarans were in Fast Attack I'd definitely go for one.

You could always go for 3 Vindis and a Typhon, the grand-daddy of ordnance. That VC heavy squad is deadly!

It's such a beautiful tank and would look amazing in a dark angels arsenal. I'm really moving this threads direction though as it is really bringing up great points. I may do a squadron of predator executioners supporting a Spartan full of CCW veterans. My terminators are going to be autocannon wielding objective holders/assaulters. Tempted to make a Volkite Culverin Heavy Support Squad. Sounds brutal!

How about you "suggest" our idea of the sicaran mounted volkite cascades to your buddies in the higher up? ;)

Pretty please?

Actually there is no need for the suggestion (the newest Achilles fills the role) but I could see another sicaran soon being brainstormed. It's such a cool tank.

PS: what higher ups?

Lol maybe my bad?

I just thought you had friends in high places in forgeworld :)

To add to the OP's query... I'm actually thinking of purchasing a tank for a small HH contingent (I'm not one for tanks in 40k)

My question then would be ... if you could take only one (1) single tank only in a 1-2k list, would it be the Sicaran, or something else, and why?
