Rasclomalum
http://i1039.photobucket.com/albums/a473/rasclomalum/csm3_zpsed27b27a.jpg So, I think I may have finally decided on a paint scheme for my warband. I used the colour codes from the sticky above and painted the marine like so: Armour: Slaanesh grey Armour trim: Xereus Purple Shoulder Inserts: Emperor's Children Soft Armour, horns: Eshin Grey Happen to have all these paints already. The miniatures have been primed white. What I worry about is what base colours to choose for these layers, what to highlight with, and which shades to use. Would appreciate any input you could give me on this. Ishagu
I personally would have primed them black... I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on highlights for the above scheme... normally I just highlight in a lighter colour, eg: Kantor Blue highlighted with Altdorf guard Blue, but as for grey I'm not sure... Rasclomalum
If I were to stake a guess, what with Slaanesh grey being of a somewhat lavender tone, Druchii violet could work well both for the armour and the trim, and then maybe something like Carroburg Crimson for the pink. Nuln Oil for the Eshin Grey. But basing... I've heard somewhere that Bugman's Glow is a nice base for Emperor's Children, anyone have any experience with this? Forté
Nice scheme. No idea on the base colours though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285485-base-colours-for-these-layers-and-what-about-the-shades/#findComment-3566529 Share on other sites
CovertToaster
White is not really the best colour to prime them with but it will keep the top coats lighter if that is what you want. Grey would have been the best thing to use as it remains more neutral in respect to your top coats. You can get a nice effect by thining down your top coats with a wash though if Slaanesh Grey is slightly pink or purple then you can add a little bit of the same coloured ink and it makes a little irridescence within the paint that alters the colour slightly. I've done this for librarians and mixed green, purple, and blue inks in to the blue top layers. One thing you could try is Daemonette Hide as another layer and then maybe highlight with Celestra Grey but like I said if it's not quite the right colour just tint it slightly with Druchii Violet or Carroburg Crimson or a little of both as Celestra Grey looks a little bluish on GW's paint conversion chart. Bryan Blaire
The color chain in GW colors for Slaanesh Grey "should" be (based on their paint system) Daemonette Hide (Base) -> Warpfiend Grey (Layer) - > Slaanesh Grey (Layer)(generally the final highlight), however, going one further would be to mix Slaanesh Grey + Skull White in a 1:1 ratio and do line highlights with that color. Alternatively, you could potentially do a Dechala Lilac edge for a purplish color, but I'm not terribly sure how well that will work. Another option would be (for a more pure grey final color), instead of Skull White, substitute Ulthuan Grey (an off white grey) into the Slaanesh Grey + Skull White mix. For Xereus Purple, the chain "should" be Naggaroth Night (base) -> Xereus Purple (layer) -> Genestealer Purple (layer) with a bright edge highlight of either Genestealer Purple + Skull White 1:1 or Dechala Lilac. Both those color chains can be shaded using Druchii Violet shade. My general system is to go Base -> Shade -> clean up/layer with Base -> Layer 1 -> Layer 2 -> Edge Highlight (I just mix my own final colors with Ulthuan Grey if I want a duller final color or Skull White for a brighter edge color) For Emperor's Children: Screamer Pink (Base), Carroburg Crimson (Shade), Pink Horror (Layer), Emperor's Children (Layer), Fulgrim Pink (Edge) or Emperor's Children + Skull White 1:1. For the Eshin Grey: Abaddon Black (Base), no Shade required, but you could use Nuln Oil if you really wanted to), Eshin Grey (Layer), Dawnstone (Layer) and don't go any higher than that. Personally, what I would actually do is just paint the Eshin Grey and then use a wash or two of Nuln Oil over it, then a single fine highlight of Dawnstone. Hope that helps.
