Ishagu
Hi guys, I have an interest of getting away from 40k due to Escalation... I play Ultras by the way. What do I need to know/do about switching my army to 30k rules? Can I use all of my existing units? Also, are the rules for all the Primarchs released yet? I would love to field Guilliman! Marshal Rohr
30K started escalation and every army has access to titans etc. It may not be your cup of tea if you're trying to avoid big units. hallodx
Iron Hand and Salamander are only loyal primarches you can play for now, but I believe he will be with us soon. There's a special system called Rite of War, which you need it to unlock some further options, and comes with limitation. Like orbital assault let you use drop pad, but then all of your units must arrive with Deep Strike, while pride of the legion make termies and veterans troop choices, more LR variant choices as dedicated transport, but you may not take ally, and if all the veteran units destroyed, your opponent wins another VP...etc So you can combin your legion special rule and rite of war to find the style that fits you. It's really fun. About unit choices, most units in 40k has a mirror in 30k, but rules options change, as well as point cost, so be aware when writing your list. Marshal Rohr
Tactical squads can't take any weapon upgrades for example, but can have a BP, Chainsword, and Bolter OR a Bolt Pistol and Chainsword instead of just a bolter and bolt pistol. Lots of variations to help create flavorful units. infyrana
To add to the OP's question... I'm assuming there's no chance of doing competitions or playing with hardcore fans in a 30k game with your Mk8 armoured marines... but I guess butchering existing units to play proxy games would be acceptable as you integrate Mk1-5 or so armour types into your army? Ishagu
Thanks guys. I guess I won't be making the switch to 30k. I'm just hoping the rumoured 7th edition nerfs D weapons in normal games of 40k.... There might be hardcore fluff players who look at your Mk8 like it's a Burger King meal in a McDonald's restaurant, but as hard as it is to get a 30K game, I doubt many of them will refuse you on that principle alone. Another thing to add to Rites of War, is they are completely, one hundred percent optional. You do not even have to have them at all. And if you are using one of the already published Legions, you are not bound by that Legion's specific Rite of War either. You can have say, a Night Lords army with Curze and still use Pride of the Legion. I'm just hoping the rumoured 7th edition nerfs D weapons in normal games of 40k.... In 30k you can only have Lords of War above 2000 points, who can only be 25% of your total points. So the Warhound may only be fielded at 3000 points. The other Super Heavies are fun to play against, being geniunely balanced - there isn't a single D weapon among them. At 2000 pts there's only a handful super-heavies you can field, and overall I dare say Heresy lists are very well balanced. There are some who disagree, but I doubt they played against a Heresy list more than once. I play Iron Hands and don't use the RoW, nor any Legion-specific units.
