SevenPlagues
Hi everyone, I'm going to be playing in my gaming group's annual tournament, and while it is a small and fun affair, I wouldn't mind some decent bragging rights. My opponents are as follows, and all games are played at 1500 points. Tyranids: new book, but pretty standard with a big brood of Warriors, 1 or 2 Tervigons, carnifexes with brainleech devourers and potentially a flying Hive Tyrant with same. Necrons: fair number of warriors, ghost arks, an annihilation barge and 1 or 2 flyers Orks: large hordes, potentially a Nob bike squad, 1 or 2 Battlewagons Space Wolves: Grey Hunters in Rhinos, missile Long Fangs, maybe allied SMs for a pair of Stormtalons Eldar/Dark Eldar/Corsairs: an assortment of Eldar - likely Corsairs with DE allies, or DE with Corsair allies. Lots of Venoms with splinter cannons, small squads of Warriors, and squads of 10 jump-troop Corsairs with those long range guns (I forget what they are called). Also likely a Corsair Prince with that goddamn orbital bombardment ability. Likely a Ravager as well for AT duties. The most power-gamer-y of my friends. I am thinking of using the following list: HQ: Coteaz ELITES: Two squads of 10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons and 6 Halberds TROOPS: 4 squads of Inquisitorial Henchmen with Storm Bolters and 3 Plasma each, 2 Chimeras (for the Purifiers to ride in) HEAVY SUPPORT: 2 Dreadnoughts with twin Autocannons/Psybolt FORTIFICATION: Aegis Defence Line and Quad Autocannons What do you fellows think about this list? What could be tweaked? I dislike having only 4 troops choices, and given that they're not wearing power armour I'm a little worried about their survivability, but hopefully their quantity will help them last, coupled with the Aegis line. Let me know your thoughts! Tournament is in a month so I've got time to make changes. True_Hisop
That list looks fairly formidable to be honest you have all the major takes for GK'S my only input is if possible try and squeez into one squad of henchmen 3 plasma cannon servitors as Coteaz can sit with that squad stopping mind lock and giving them re-rolls with prescience and maybe if your lucky perfect timing for some hilarious faces when your re-rolling s7 ap2 blasts ignore cover. remember re-rolls on blast weapons still let you re-roll gets hot as-well as scatter. Gentlemanloser
Your troops choices are too small and too fragile. They also aren't Fearless/Stubborn/ASTKNF and have low Leadership. If I was facing you, I'd target your Warrior Accolytes, kill/run them off board, and remove your ability to win games. Sorry if this seems a little harsh! ;) (The suggestion for Plasma Cannon Servitos for Coteaz is spot on!) Reclusiarch Darius
Acolyte only Troops is a terrible idea. You need at least Terminators, if not Strikes, to bulk out your scoring and give you some staying power. Seconded on triple plasma cannon servitor+Coteaz. That combo wins me games, hands down. True_Hisop
I often take pure Henchmen as troops but i always field them in chimeras and carapace for survivability. Do you play Tau or Eldar on a regular basis? Because they would love to fight that army. Rek your transports Turn 1, then murder your T3 infantry with massed fire. True_Hisop
Every single week in-fact as my regular battle brothers partner owns both armies >.< and both eldar and tau ruin power Armour better than anyone. unless the tau/ eldar players you play dont take ap2 tau, wraithguard and sun-cannons regularly? for me armour 3 makes little difference more often than not... and yeah chimeras are ruined by waveserpents but at the end of the day so is everything else. the suncannon/wraithguard/ap2tau is prity much the whole metagame where i play. so its cheep and cheerfully with carpace so bolters and the like don't ruin my day. i generally do well although i never said i only take henchmen i said i take them as troops i usually have some form of backup (allies/purifiers/dreadnoughts) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285560-1500-tournament-list/#findComment-3568832 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
Scoring Henchmen are gravy alongside other mroe durable Troops. On thier own though, if you're not doing something specific to protect them (3 Warriors in a LR! lolz), they're far too fragile. If you (in general, not asking anyone specifically) were asked wether you could kill 40 footslogging guardsmen if they were your opponents only scoring elements, would you be concerned? True_Hisop
it's all relative i would never footslog them personally and i very rarely use them with flak Armour unless abusing MSU. and lots of eldar/tau lists dont care about Armour three much, though the toughness three is certainly a downer for the points drop they can be effective (i'm not saying the most competitive choice just not a bad one) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285560-1500-tournament-list/#findComment-3568921 Share on other sites
SevenPlagues
I do agree that 40 Guardsmen equivalent isn't very durable. I originally planned on including a 10 man Strike Squad, but then opted to ditch a few other things and replace them with Purifiers as I just find Purifiers are so much better than Strikes for relatively few additional points. I guess I'll ditch the Purifiers and include a Strike Squad with 2 Psycannons - they can hold a backfield objective and operate the Quad Autocannons in the mean time. I'll also ditch one of the Chimeras in that event. My new list would thus be: HQ: Coteaz ELITES: 10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannon and 6 Halberds TROOPS: 10 Strikes with 2 Psycannons, 4 Squads of Inquisitorial Henchmen with Storm Bolters and Plasma, 1 Squado of Inquisitorial Henchmen with Plasma and Plasma Cannon Servitors, 1 Chimera (for the Purifiers) HEAVY SUPPORT: 2 Dreadnoughts FORTIFICATION: Aegis Line with Quad Autocannon I'll have to move some things around to make the points available for these changes. Reclusiarch Darius
Take a Grandmaster to make the Purifiers scoring. You get a monster melee character (with a nemesis hammer, he's the ender of joy for all sorts of problems), tactical flexibility (in 'Purge' and 'Big Guns', you can switch to giving Scout instead), and 'Communion' to help with Reserves. Strikes are pretty meh, I find Terminator combat squads do the same job better. YYMV. SevenPlagues
I realize now I probably should have posted this in the Army List forum - my apologies to the Mods for this, I'm new here! I don't know if I want to drop two Henchmen squads to include a GM. They are so solid, and if I took two Purifier units that might make sense. I just can't bring myself to take a melee character like that at 1500 points when I don't have a way to get him in to any fights. As it stands, with Coteaz, 10 Purifiers, 50 odd Henchmen with Plasma and Plasma Cannons for Coteaz's squad, 2 Dreadnoughts and the Fortifications, it comes out to 1478 points. I'd really like to include a Chimera to protect the Purifiers - is this necessary? Is a Rhino a viable alternative? I don't like combat-squadding a unit like Purifiers so a Razorback isn't something I'd be too comfortable with. Attach him to a Purifier squad to give them a tanky character out front to soak wounds. Chimera is okay, AV11 is terrible this edition though so stay away from Rhinos or Razorbacks.
