Fytharin
Greeting brothers and sisters! I'm currently gearing up to paint my new company of Space Wolves and I've been wrestling with all of the different styles and shades of blue that are out there for our chapter. A lot of it comes down to preferrence but it also comes down to what looks good with the bases you're wanting to put on. Here I would like to maybe get some feedback on what you guys are doing whether it's the Codex Blue, Smurf Blue, or even a dark gray I've seen floating around every now and then. If you do choose to comment please post your layering process (IE base, shade, layer, highlights etc;) pictures are also appreciated to see the end result. Right now my idea for my army is a dark blue, possibly mixed with a gray. I've seen a lot of dark gray armies and the light blue codex colors but I'm really wanting a dark gray-blue to offset the snow and granite bases I'm wanting to do. I just spent an hour digging through photos looking for an example but I guess I will just have to toy around with my paints and make my own example....think of a dark navy blue with a hint of gray. helterskelter
On my Lukas model I used a combination of blues and grey to get a nice finish. Used foundation: astronomican as the base, space wolves grey drybrush, asurman blue wash, finished with another drybrush of longbeard grey ( a sidenote, I generally use drybrushing as my main painting technique, i'm nowhere near as good as half the guys on here but its how I paint :) ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285653-space-wolf-blue-lighter-blue-darker-blue-or-sexy-blue/#findComment-3570933 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
I base with mechanicus/eshin grey, but I like to wash with earthshade and highlight with the fenris/russ blue-greys, etc. Gives it a "cool light/warm shadows" aspect.
