Help build a Death Guard - The reaping list -escalation game

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the gaming and have just got into 40k for 3 months by the starter set and borrow army from my friend. My friend and I decided that each of us will pick a HH army ,collect build and have some games at the weekend with each other.

I've decided to pick Death Guard because really like Typhon and the Death Guard fluff. I want to build my army around the "The reaping" Rites of War . I think this rite of war is Typhon style. So I hope some veteran members can help a new fellow with building a list which is fluffy but competitive enough for a fun game with my friend. (An one direction game is never a fun game, isn't it?)

I have read both 2 HH books and come up with the list below:

HQ

Typhon

5-7 Deathshrouds

Spartan Tank

Troop

7 men STac squad with flamers +rhino

7 men STac squad with flamers +rhino

10 men VTac squad with meltas +rhino

10 men Vtac squad with meltas +rhino

7 HS squad with Volkite Culverin

I think it will be the back bone of my list. The HS squad will camp home objective while the rest of army will rush forward to the enemy.

I would appreciate if you can tell me what I need to fill in my list. (What tank is the best to run along with Spartan Tank for armor saturation? What model is good for Anti Heavy Tank role?,etc.) Our game will not have flyer. Our plan for game point is 1000,1500,2000,2500. What is a good list for each of that point based on the back bone models and some addition ones? In small point game who would be good to be a HQ and also to be a good 2nd HQ for large point game?

I really like the Grave Warden Terminator but I feel like they need a Land Raider to transport. So it would cost a lots of points to field them. So are they any good and how you field and use them on the battle field?

All advice and comments are appreciated.

Thx

Welcome to the B&C!

By STac, I assume you mean Tactical Support Squads?  If so, I'm afraid this list won't work.  None of the troops choices you have chosen can fill your Compulsory Troops Choices - The Reaping only allows you to field Veteran Tacticals and Heavy Support squads as non-compulsory squads, and Tactical Support squads also cannot fill compulsory troops choice (per the Support Squad rule, page 205 of Betrayal).

If you decided to use the Pride of the Legion Rite of War, then your Veteran Tacticals would be able to fill your compulsory troops choices, the Tactical Support would remain non-compulsory, and the Heavy Support Squad would have to move back to being a Heavy Support choice.

A Spartan with Flare Shield and Armored Ceramite is almost armor saturation in and of itself.  Adding any AV13 or 14 choices would probably just be icing on the cake.

If you're trying to keep it fluffy, I would drop the Rhino's and go for more boots on the ground. Death Guard were the ultimate footsloggers!

Dropping the Rhino's and Vets should comfortably get you two big blocks of regular Tactical Marines, and maybe even an Apothecary for each. They are the bread and butter of HH lists and no army, except for a Pride of the Legion force, should leave home without a big block of one of the troops choices.

That 7 man Culverin unit is the real deal, but hugely expensive. Would be worth trying to get an Augury Scanner in there, or from an adjoined Apothecary, so they can beat anyone trying to deep strike and ruin their fun. With regards to the Deathshrouds & Typhon, at 2k points 5 is going to be enough to mince most units short of Firedrake/Cataphractii Iron Hands + Cyber Familiar Command Squads. Keep them at 4-5 and use the extra points for more warm bodies.

Also, I've learnt from reading all the threads, plus a few of my lists, that you can't underestimate any of the Predator variants or Rapier batteries. I'm really looking forward to seeing how my Rapier Graviton Cannons go against my mates Tyranids!
