What would it be?

Air Assault. Check out the 101st Airborne on Wiki, might give you some solid ideas.

1st Cavalry Division as well. They made Airmobile in Vietnam into what it is today.

Aren't those the guys with the whatsit called patch, the "electric cherry"?

So, I'm not the biggest on military vernacular, but I was wondering, what type of military formation would have something like Assault Troops as the core and the Javelin Land Speeders as support? Air Assault?

I think the Jump Jet regiment has a nice ring to it since there aren't any jet packs in the military right now

Lol, no, that my current unit, 25th Infantry Division. Lightfighters are down in Hawaii, we got the Airborne here.

And we call it the Electric Strawberry. At least when we're in public.

Someone hasn't seen the Discovery programme about jet-packs then.

The Yanks experimented with jet and rocket packs in the 50's and 60's before Vietnam, however they weren't really fuel efficient enough having a range of 18 mins of fuel.

So Uncle Sam went with Hueys!

Traditional Assault Marines with jump packs is as close as it gets to the Airborne divisions (think 82nd Airborne and the 101st circa World War Two) of the US and the Para Regiments of the UK.

Jetbikes... don't really have a direct equivalent.  The closet I can think of would be the Scout Weapon Teams of reconnaissance/scout helicopters.

Aye even over here (Blighty) it would be 16 Air Assault (Paras, Commandoes, 29 Commando (RHA) and 7 Para (RA) with a sprinkling of REME and RE) - you're thinking of the Caestus for gliding tank - Cerberus is the super-heavy tank destroyer.

Otherwise you could go real special and have an SF unit (UK is SAS, SBS, Int. Corp (sneaky beekies) and the SFSG (1 Para mainly)) for elite fun-time :D

I wasn't looking at the jetbikes so much a the land speeders, which now that Heathens mentions Vietnam, would be the closest equivalent to a helicopter outside the Caestus. So I think I'm going with Air Cav. :D

I'd say Land Speeders would be Little Birds, with the Fire Raptor an Apache, and the Storm Eagles with their large capacity something like a heavily armed Chinook.

Speeders would be more like Kiowas (no trans, support focussed), Raptors similar to Cobras (close support compared to the distances Longbows sit), and the Eagles at bit like the old, armed Hueys.

Pfft. They just borrowed it from the Marines who first did it in Korea. msn-wink.gif

That's a filthy lie, and I'd ask you to peddle them elsewhere. tongue.png

No one talks bad about my Screaming Eagles....

Yeah, those Storm Eagles are hard to fit considering their armaments. Harder yet are stuff like the Caestus. Flying tank that can ram things? Yeah, we don't have those...

A thought, Kol. How about the original Airmobile, Glider troops. But instead of crappy fabric and tin gliders, you could use Cerberus's.

You can glide in those....into other things...

Cerberus... Glide...
