Legion Vexilla for Word Bearers?

Still trying to finalise my inital list before making my first order and I was wondering about the benefits of adding a Vexilla to my units.

 

Most advice I've seen is that its not really neccessary for Word Bearers because they roll 3D6 for Morale checks. I wasn't too sure about this, so decided to do the maths.

 

Morale check on 2D6:

Ld7     58.3 %

Ld8     72.2 %

Ld9     83.3 %

Ld10   91.7 %

 

Morale check on 2D6 with re-rolls:

Ld7     82.6 %

Ld8     92.3 %

Ld9     97.2 %

Ld10   99.3 %

 

Morale check on 3D6:

Ld7     72.7 %

Ld8     84.3 %

Ld9     93.5 %

Ld10   97.7 %

 

Morale check on 3D6 with re-rolls:

Ld7     92.5 %

Ld8     97.5 %

Ld9     99.6 %

Ld10   99.9 %

 

From this it looks like being able to take the lowest two dice on a 3D6 from being a Word Bearer is still quite a bit worse than the benefits you get from the Vexilla.

 

So unless I'm going to attach something like a fearless Chaplain to the unit, I still think it's worthwhile trying to fit in a Vexilla in most of my Word Bearer units.

 

Of course this is all theoretical. I haven't got the books yet and I've certainly not played a game. I'm just trying to figure out what I need to buy without wasting money on stuff I don't need. So any real world advice would be most welcome.

IMO you can go wrong buying the Upgrade Kit and putting a Vexilla in your unit. Being able to re-roll your moral is awesome. Consider there is no And They Shall Know No Fear in the Legion lists. I have found it useful quite often.

I think it's a great modeling opportunity for any legion, doubly so for the XVII !

I agree with Wolf_Pack. The ability to re-roll is still good when rolling 3d6 for morale. Plus it fits the preaching fanatical element that the legion is known for.

I don't have my book on me but isn't the point cost quite low??
