Aralon56
Hey every one i just finished reading the scars and there was a little bit that bugged me because i was always under the impression that the khan wanted to stay behind and help Russ fight the alpha legion, but Dorn needed him at Terra so he had to leave. In the book he basically gave Russ the finger and off he went to do his own thing. So is the BL version right and i had just had it wrong all these years? Conn Eremon
You are free to choose your own hierarchy of priority according to your preference. Most feel that the Horus Heresy series is providing us with the currently definitive accounts of the events within. Meaning yes, the Black Library version is right. However, there are some whose headcanon places older fluff like the IAs higher in priority, either because of who created it, opinions on why it was created, or for simple interest. If you agree with that sentiment, then you are not wrong, and this story is just a fun little thing you can ignore. Kol Saresk
There's also the fact that there still six years from the end of Scars to Terra. We don't fully know whats going to happen. Clewz
I enjoyed the story but I was little disappointed that they didn't go with the help from a surprise faction (unless the Alpha Legion bit was supposed to represent that) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285742-scars/#findComment-3571799 Share on other sites
Stonerhino
What if Scars was just a setup for the Death Guard to show up and help Russ. In an attempt to replace the Khan with Russ in Mortarian's plans. It was awesome to see the Khan send Russ a message that says "Till next winter". Kol Saresk
No, according to the scuttlebutt Laurie Goulding is passing around the First Expedition, the "surprising quarter of help" is the Eldar. Wade Garrett
No, according to the scuttlebutt Laurie Goulding is passing around the First Expedition, the "surprising quarter of help" is the Eldar. So and so! Though we flee ten thousand years beyond the veil of time, the wickedness follows. Our efforts are in vain. Our hope falls. One last thing remains. Let us commend our souls to the True Pantheon or the Corpse Emperor, paint our faces, and vent our wrath. NO! XENOS! ALLIES! IN! MY! 30K! Hyaenidae
Wonderful. Eldar allies. Is Laurie Golding gonna become the Forgeworld version of Ward? God, I hope not. Kol Saresk
I don't know what is worse, that its being legitimized, or that the IP department wants it legitimized. TemujinZero
The Eldar were said to be the surprise allies in the old canon, but that this is entirely undecided as far as the new canon goes. Kol Saresk
The Eldar were said to be the surprise allies in the old canon, but that this is entirely undecided as far as the new canon goes. Well the scuttlebutt does say eldar still, I guess it would rely on how the term "allies" is interpreted. Ie, allies of convenience, "enemy of my enemy is my friend" or "wubby wub wub". Conn Eremon
As for the Eldar, I believe Temujin is right. I know a lot of people hate the whole xenos-hugging, but it is not by far new to either 30k/40k. Every faction has reasons why they would fight each other and alongside each other. It is one of those things where the fluff validates an obvious aspect of the hobby, right alongside the Missing Legions validating DIYs and about as old. Kol Saresk
As long a it isn't "wubby wub wub" and it is "What? That eldar ship flew right in front of my guns as I was firing." I should be okay. Wade Garrett
I'm going to deal with this in true grimdark fashion, countering one atrocity with another. There were NO eldar in that battle. It was all ALPHA LEGION infiltrators DISGUISED as eldar! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285742-scars/#findComment-3572147 Share on other sites

I should be okay. Considering that the most often used examples of "wubby wub wub" are far more "What? That eldar ship flew right in front of my guns as I was firing" than "wubby wub wub," I doubt it will mean much to many who are against zenos-human alliances. Phoebus
Eh, the Eldar have been visibly trying to stop Horus (well, Chaos, really) in this series since Fulgrim. Their coming to the rescue of Leman Russ should hardly constitute a shock. Personally, I was disappointed because I thought that would have been a perfect opportunity for the Dark Angels to ride in. Said rescue could lead into the two Legions trying to get back to Terra on time, which is referenced in the oldest of fluff. TemujinZero
I don't know what is worse, that its being legitimized, or that the IP department wants it legitimized. They do seem to love trying to rescue awful mistakes that would be better off forgotten. The tacked on excuse at the end of Wolf Hunt for the timeline error in Outcast Dead was terrible. Wolf Hunt spoiler: Malcador: "Oh, by the way stereotypical Japanese guy, your understanding of the timeline is a bit off because of space magic." Nagasena: "Erm, okay. Why are you telling me this?" Malcador: "Don't you see? It was necessary for you to think that Magnus' message arrived after we already knew about Horus' betrayal. If the timeline hadn't been altered by space magic, the recent events with that troublesome astropath would have turned out very differently. This whole misunderstanding has turned out to be very cinematic and awesome." Nagasena: "Ah, okay. Wait, what? How did any of that change what just happened on Terra? Isn't all this timeline stuff completely irrelevant? And while I'm picking apart your nonsense, why did I have to hunt this guy for this whole story just so you could turn up and recruit him anyway. And why did he have to have that invisibility trick that everyone and their cat now seems to have. Couldn't you have just saved me the effort and contacted him in the beginning? Was this whole story just an excuse to try and explain away that timeline stuff." Malcador: "I can't say."
