Minotaurs & House Terryn Knights

Working on assembling my Assault Terminators for next month's escalation. Going to send them in in a Storm Raven (yet to be built). I am converting them to hold the Spartan shields by Scibor Miniatures instead of the stock Storm Shields. I did this by taking the shield hand and cutting off the shield around it, then shaving off the front of it. Leaving the hand and power generator which I then super glued to the shield.

You can kind of see the hand work here. (Sorry for the blurry pic) Also the brass shoulder decoration instead of the packaged one. I think I might put the included one on the other shoulder, although in the artwork, they have two of the Greek letter plates. Unfortunately the etched brass only includes 5. I need to get more etched brass...

2nd COmpany 2nd Squad is now complete!

I also got a Table War display tower case. Here's what it looks like if you havent' seen one before (sans see through front cover):

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee260/netminder69/2014-02-26111829.jpg

I took one of the inserts (like the nes on the sides) and based it like my minis like thus:

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee260/netminder69/2014-03-03091013.jpg

Then put it all together:

The tray, when done up with all three inserts, can pull duty as a simple display board. The othe rinsert will house Command group, Devastators, Sternguard etc. And the middle one will be for my Storm Raven.

Started on my Storm Raven. Started with the base.

I used one head from the Scibor Miniatures Spartan Basing Kit and a couple wall sections of the Templar Ruins set. I plan on getting some of Secret Weapon's bricks to toss around as additional rubble. I'd also like to find some kind of lifeless vegetation. Leafless bushes or trees to put one or two on there, just to break up the large open space on the base. As is, it's ready for priming. (The stem isn't attached)

Finally got some work done on this base now that my Fantasy tournamnet has passed and I don't need to work towards that.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eokvLGHURKs/UzCgeMqooRI/AAAAAAAAAcI/h9W8xv-bZHg/s1600/2014-03-24+16.45.32.jpg

I just received the tan bricks I ordered from Secret Weapon Miniatures which will serve as further rubble on the base. So I began by painting the sand around the base fixtures with Dryad Bark which is my basing paint I am using for my army. I did that so later I didn't run the risk of slopping it on the freshly painted fixtures. The fixtures are being done in multiple steps as opposed ot the base which is Dryad Bark dry brushed with Tyrant Skull.

Since the bricks are tan, I based the fixtures in XV-88 and then hit them with a generous amount of GW Seraphim Sepia shade.

The skulls were based in Ushtabi Bone and then hit with the same shade. The benefit of doing the fixtures this color is that it matches the color of my vehicles (I am NOT doing bronze on the vehicles as I don't want them looking like giant driving ingots!) and so helps to tie it all together. The dirt like rubble was painted the same Dryad Bark as the ground then shaded with Agrax Earthshade.

Once the shade has dried, I went over it with Balor Brown. I'm still waiting on the shade to dry on the other fixtures, and once it does I will do the same to them, followed by selective highlights with Zamesi Desert. Finally I'll hit it with a dry brush of Terminatus Stone. The skull in this pic has been dry brushed with Tyrant Skull and the Dryad Bark rubble has been hit with Terminatus Stone. As you can see I finally fitted the stem onto the base as well.

Did a mock up of my Terminator paint scheme.

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee260/netminder69/2014-04-01105557.jpg

Going by how they are in the IA books, I did forget that the shoulder pads should be red, so I need to fix that. Also, this newer armor pattern doesn't have the red stripe. Only the Tarterus pattern has the red strie on the helmet, so I need to go back over that with bronze. This is just the basecoat. And I forgot to sand the base before I primed it... arrrrgh!!! Anyoen have a good technique for locking down the sand on a base after you've already primed? I may just go ahead try the textured paint to get around it. Stupid me. :P

I'm not sure what to suggest for the bases (it's new territory for me ph34r.png ), but the bitz from Secret weapon look nice. I may have to look at their stuff and see if they have anything suitably Aztec/Incan/Mayan in their range smile.png Good stuff! thumbsup.gif

Well, the base fixtures and shield are from Scibor Miniatures. I have some Secret Weapon stuff... I was originally planning on putting bricks on the SR base, but after I got the vegetation on it I thought it would make it too cluttered. I still have them for other bases though.

Got some new minis assembled. Ivanus and Asterion.

Asterion doesn't have his cape until after priming. Put him on a Scibor Miniatures Spartan Ruins base rather than the original.

Ivanus on an Ancient Ruins base from Scibor. I still think his stance is goofy as hell. This base let me put his feet flat.

Now also have assembled Kraatos.

Unlike Ivanus and Asterion, the bit of scrap/rocky outcropping he's propping his foot on is not separate. SO I had to carefully saw it off to affix him to this base, an Ancient Ruins base from Scibor. One word of caution to anyoen else that gets this model, the ammo feed belt is a b!%ch to put on. It doesn't quite fit right. SO there will be much heating and reshaping and cursing and prodigious use of cyanoacrylate to get it to stay in place.

Also built a Librarian on an Ancient Ruins base to give my Minotaurs a bit of psychic support. Yes, I know, there's still some mold lines to clean up on his weapon.

I think the most disappointing thing about Kraatos is that they put a lot of detail on him that sits behind the Heavy Bolter where you can't see it. And then the Heavy Bolter itself has very limited detail on it compared to the standard HB you get with a Dev squad for example. But on the other hand... heavy bolter sniper. 'Nuff said. :P

That Hyperios is huge. I thought it was about half that size. I've always loved Tarantulas, I should probably pick up some myself.

Nice to see some Minotaurs representing. The bronze and red always looks fantastic and the edition of Greek themed parts really enhances them. Maybe I should look at painting up a Minotaurs' Captain as part of my ETL vows.

When I was at the store today they had a bitz exchange going on. There were a couple 60mm bases available. I put a tarantula on one and it still wasn't big enough! Looks like I'd need a 70 or 80 mm base for them.
