blood of Sanguinus
I can decide whether to make my flesh Tearers a competitive list fluffy or a bit balanced. I have designed several but can't decide what to build to you know what do you think. I love the fluff of the Tearers, that's what attracted me to them how ever realistically you are not going to win loads with shed loads of dc and assault troops they really need to make some rules to improve them in this area. Morticon
My advice (as an avid gamer and less of a modeler/painter) is to focus your efforts on your FT in terms of painting and modeling. Go all out on heraldry, colours, numbering, squad badges and stuff like that- and allow yourself some freedom with the models you use. That way you have a nice compromise. At least one DC unit in your list is not a bad thing. Also, dont be shy to use allies as "counts as" to help with fluff stuff where you can. Grey hunters in pods for example are awesome counts as bolter-wielding FTs, then you can flesh out with the DC and the jumpers. Throw in a Wolf Priest for your Chaplain counts as and you got pref enemy. Again, just spend the time on the modelling to make those guys stand out! Bartali
There's no point in building any list, be it a tournament list or a fluffy list if you don't like playing it. Generally you'll want units that 'excite' you (be it the models, rules or fluff) in a tightly focused list. I'd start by working out want you want to do with troops. Minimun or maximum. Jump, Mech or Pod. Pick one of each and go from there, this will keep the list focused and straying into battleforce teritatry where BA will struggle. t4play
Pick the models you like the most, use them. That's what I do win or lose Sometimes fluff sometimes far from it But always with DC :-)
Xenith
Yea, I find that using the models you like builds a rapport with the army, the unit gains a history. If you include a unit just because its the most effective... then you probably wont acre as much about it... As it stands: If you are just starting collecting a BA army, it doesnt make sense to build an army competitive in the current environment. We are supposed to be getting a book in the next year orso, I think, and the army may not even be one before you need to re-do stuff. Picking the units you like the best, will ensure that your army remains the same between codex changes, and then you can add to it. Picking the units that are most effective may mean that, when the codex drops, you have a load of units you dont like, and arent very good. Always go with your gut. RenderDead
Ive been an avid BA fan for a long time as well. I use to alway build my lists off fluff which is fun, but sometimes if you want to participate in tournaments and do well you need to sacrifice the fluff for what works! My advice take what you like to most and work around it! That is what I do, I will not play unless I incorporate what I like the most about each army, and then gear it towards being effective. Its about what you like building, painting, and especially looking at! Best of luck!
