Starting a Catachan Fluff army

A while back I got my hands on 40 some Catachan Jungle Fighters and have ever seen been wondering how to incorporate them into my Warhammer experience. After giving it some thought I decided to start a fluffy Catachan army. Upon deciding this I started writing down the premises that the army had to uphold. The first was a back story. My army is going to be a Catachan Devil company that has been pinned down on the planet of Catachan. They have to hold their line at the Aegis Defence Line With troops on the way they have to hold out until reinforcement arrive. They will be accompanied by two Inquisitors joined their company in an effort to stop the siege and will be led by Colonel 'Iron Hand' Straken.

To stay true to the fluff I am weary to run Leman Russes and Chimera's as the jungle's of Catachan are far to dense to manouver through. Thats why I will be running a mobile airforce with 4 flyers with two off them being transports. My gunline will also feature a large number of artillery pieces as that is in line with the stronghold type of scenario I'm trying to create.

I'm running all the Catachan characters:

-Gunnary Sergeant Harker

-Marbo

-Colonel 'Iron Hand' Straken

Now the army list (note that this thread is about the fluff and note whether the list is actually any good):

Welcome to the Guard! You should give this topic a read comrade, a disconcerting rumour but hopefully one that is far from true. I still hold out hope that the Catachan models will receive the attention they deserve as their older models need an update. That doesn't change your army though, the hobby needs more Catachan and a fully fluffed out army like this is even better! smile.png

I think your army is pretty characterful and it certainly has some punch to it (I'm assuming it's a 1850pt list), though I'd have liked to have seen some Sentinels stomping around as they're cool and fit the theme (giant chainsaws!).

You'll need voxes in the PCS and/or CCS in order to make use of the Infantry Squad ones, so either find the points for that or drop them. I'm assuming your non-Harker Vets are riding in the Valkyries? If not camo cloaks would be handy and fluffy I reckon. The list looks pretty solid, what sort of opponents are you expecting or is it a general list?

Have you painted the army up and got a colour scheme? Do you have any pictures you can share? biggrin.png

I did read the rumors, its why I am now pursuing this army instead of later on.

The vets are indeed riding the valkyries so the cloaks are not needed there.

I forgot about the vox casters working that way, I'll probably drop them then and take a Heavy Weapons Team with one of the vets.

Sentinels are cool but I'm lacking the points to field them

I have about 40 Catachans painted up but just as I bought them since there are secondhand. I'm probably looking to repaint most of them. I'm thinking of doing a Dark Angel green base with khorne red elements for the bandanas and such. So pretty Basic.

Are there color schemes I can use for my tanks and airplanes?

Valkyries didn't exist in the old glory days when the colour scheme was devised, but flyers have been shown as painted the same as the other Catachan vehicles. A good example is the "Bellerophon" Pattern formation. I think the Catachan vehicle scheme looks rather fetching on a Valkyrie! :)
