Kilofix
As I understand it, Troops in a Chimera can only fire when the latter moves 6" or less in that turn. Pretty much the same as a Troop on foot. So is the best use of a Chimera only to get Troops to some intended location / objective / target and then just sit there or have them disembark? Or is there a more creative way of using a Chimera that moves around with embarked Troops? Thanks! Oz of the North
What I always found fun was to put a vet squad in one with harker and have it outflank with either 3 meltaguns or plasma, (depends on personal preference) and this can ruin someone's flank. Beachymike123
i'd say it depends on the situation as to their uses. they can be used to rush towards an objective if you need them to, or be used as a gun platform to cover your army's advance. chimeras are one of the better transports and are fairly versatile for their points cost imho. i use mine to lay down as much fire as possible to cover my infantry and block enemy assaults, and it usually comes up trumps. WarriorFish
Agreed, Chimeras are flexible so the best use of them depends on what's going on. It might be to surge forward to deliver the troops where they're needed, to hold back and provide fire support or to intercept and block enemy action. They can throw a respectable amount of fire power out even without upgrades so they have the potential to take down light armour quite well - you can imagine how effective this can be when you have several in your army. This also neatly leaves your other points to be spent on harder hitting weaponry for other roles So maybe the question is more of "what does my army need help with?" because the Chimera can always help out With mechanisation you need to go all in or not bother though, as armour saturation is key to their success but with a fair price for a good package it certainly won't hold you back. My troops fight dismounted as much as not now thanks to 6th allowing infantry to move and fire more effectively with rapid fire weapons but whenever I field Chimeras I know they will put in a solid performance. PureFodder
I use them as a mobile bunker for Vet squads. All the special weapons can shoot out of the top and it leaves them far less vulnerable to incoming fire. Turn 4 they do an 18" move towards an objective. Disembark on turn 5 to take the objective. WarriorFish
That is evil indeed! Yet another way the Chimera is easily one of the best transports in the game. The versatility is very useful, for example flooding the board with hull Heavy Flamers for nothing. Always provides a very warm welcome for assault armies Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285947-best-use-of-chimera-for-troop-transport/#findComment-3576389 Share on other sites
