Caestus Assault Ram in 6th

Been debating one of these for my Carcharodons. I like the concept of the Ram but I feel like it suffers from awkward rules. I.E. having to stop to unload passengers or unload then ram, then when it does have passengers and you do ram in supersonic you have a chance at fire-balling and killing the passengers if it gets shot down.

But the idea of Tyberos and the Red Brethren inside one is waaay too cool to pass up. I can see it being useful for clearing lanes and ramming fortifications as well as the occasional tank.

So with that said what kind of experience has the community had with one in the new edition?

I use a Ram quite often and it is just like everything else imho, you get what you pay for. If you have it alone against other fliers it's not so great as it has 0 skyfire ability. But for crazy ground and pound it's great. The main use of it is the magna melta blast which is awesome. As for transport, I use it only to carry my Lone Wolf Terminator when playing mini games (2k or less) as he could care less if it gets vapourised from beneath him, but in large games (my usual play) it's 10 Wolf Guard Terminators packing a lunch. Find your target objective and blast it clear with the magna and wing missiles, go to hover disembark the package, then ram your way out.

I run 2 rams.... sometimes.   Its a great vehicle and very hard to stop AV 13 front and sides is difficult enough more so on a flyer.  It can tank shock on arrival from reserve and then drop its large blast on something.  Some may argue it cant but the rules are reasonably clear it is a tank that has flyer rules.  I politely decline to debate or explain it further make your own minds up and feel free to disagree.  The way I run it is accepted where I play.

I run it mainly against Tau, more so these days.  You can run angels of death and take a cheap DA libby with a shield generator on a 4++.

Fly it around the board shooting things with the twin linked large melta blast and for extra cheese tank shock Riptides or Missilesides sitting on board edges every time you leave the board.  Its a free shot at the blue cheese warriors.  Death or Glory wont work as you cant assault a Flyer.

I succumbed to the awesome factor. Caestus Assault Ram it is haha.

Good on you rules as written put up for you to look at.  Individual experience/acceptance may vary depending on the maturity of your gaming group.  It is good against Tau backline riptides as it forces leadership checks near board edge and they can't hit it back.

The reason the CAR is unwieldy with the stop and go ramming and disembarking is because it's meant to breach and unload on space ships. If you rammed a Heldrake, your terminators wouldn't exactly be able to disembark 200 feet up in the air onto the corpse of a falling Heldrake, right? I think it's pretty cool that at least we have the option to still use it as a transport and a ram, since the old rules didn't even let you disembark as it had no hover option.

I am very much willing to get Caestus, but I consider it a very powerful unit, appears turn 2 at best and termies can charge on turn 3 out of it. Then Magna melta is very usefull not only against vehicles but also against troops. I'm thinking about buying it as soon as GW website starts selling them

The rumors say sometime in April, I believe April 7th, FW will start selling on the GW website and GW store. But you still have to pick up the shipment from a GW store, you cannot purchase FW on the GW website and ship it straight to your home. Buying FW from the GW website and picking it up at the GW store means you don't have to pay FW's 10% shipping fee and import taxes.

This is just rumors, but that's what the current rumors are. It would be nice if you could buy FW stuff on the GW website and get it sent to your house with no fees, but I doubt it because the FW website will probably still exist.
