Mordrak Bomb clarification

So according to Mordrak's special rules and his first to the fray rule, can you attach him to paladins in order to DS them on turn one?

The confusing part to me is when it comes to buying Mordrak's ghost knights, because then that becomes his dedicated unit/retinue due to being an upgrade character. Yet pre-mission when he is solo he can be attached to another unit? In the codex it reads " Mordrak and any unit he accompanies will automatically arrive in your first turn and will not scatter". So since he is joined to that unit he must remain with them throughout the duration of the game being he does not have the independent character rule, but I can attach him to that squad and subsequently attach Draigo to the same squad and all use first to the fray?

Nope, as he does not have the 'Independent Character' special rule. Thus, he cannot be attached to units. The only unit he can join is the Ghost Knight unit, and he's considered a squad upgrade (hence LoS! rolls are only on a 4+).

Yeah, you can attach other Independent Characters to Mordrak and his unit of Ghost Knights. Draigo, Librarians and Terminator Inquisitors are all popular choices.

Functionally, Mordrak is a vehicle in the form of an infantry special character with expensive ablative wounds and an awful lot of attacks for each additional wound. Use him as such.

My personal fav is transporting a Librarian with a Teleport Homer, and a unit of reserved GKT. Another fav is transporting a bunch of TDA Inquisitors with Psycannons (but sure to include enough Ghosts to off set the T3). Draigo is quite popular, too.
