Riffer77
I thought that I would start a small BD army. And as usual the first thing I did was to visit 40K Lexicanum. After reading the info page about BD I was somewhat confused, as the whole page was a big contradiction to itself. I know that you should always take Lexicanums info with a grain of salt. But it said that BD have Death Company,Sanguinary Priests and they suffer from Red Thirst (as I expected). But then it also stated that according to the BA Codex they are of an unknown founding and that they are strict followers of the Codex Astartes. All of this leads to my question: Should I use C:BA or C:SM? It would be nice if someone could shed some light over this.
Brother Tyler
The Blood Drinkers have been around since 1st edition ("Rogue Trader"). The are "Codex" in that they follow the Codex Astartes pattern of markings, though they follow the Blood Angels pattern of organization. So instead of using the recognizable Blood Angels squad and company markings (helmet colors and knee pads), they use markings that you would recognize from the Ultramarines (squad badge/number on the right pauldron, company color on the shoulder pad rims). Flint13
Yep, Tyler has the right of it. The blood drinkers are only really "codex compliant" in how they label their marines. Nothing much else is liable to be regulation in a bloodmad mob of pseudo-berserkers.

Riffer77
I didn't realize that there where any BD in "Space Marine" Sadly enough there are not that much fluff to go on. The only books that have them in the main story are: The Rite of Holos and the Death of Integrity. I'm going to build a BD army based upon a choice I made in 1990 (don't get me wrong, I still think it is a great choice). I was a little surprised when found some of my RTB01 in the storage (most of my modells got lost in the latest move). They are poorly painted and poorly glued, but there where one thing that struck me when I picked them all up, and it was that the most of them where red with a yellow stripe on the helmet. I'm currently in a 40K tournament, but if I have the time, I'll start a WIP thread and post some before pictures, before I start to strip the paint away, and finish what I had begun. Imperialis_Dominatus
The current Codex has a few bits on them. They're not noted to have refused Dante's call to Baal. Collateral damage when they aided some Cadians made command 'hesitant' to accept aid again. They embrace the Red Thirst, ritualize the drinking of blood, and have a high degree of control over the Flaw.
Brother Kirus
I am considering this chapter for myself as well and I would recommend to read “Death of Integrity” if you haven’t done so already. The book is so-so, but it does give you some insight on BD background. One of the interesting twists – Tzeentch is very interested in this chapter (-:
