Finally Started

So after a long wait I finally got started on my Blood Angels and the hobby in general. I had my first games with a friend of mine the other night and it went pretty well. Sorry there is no in depth batreps, I forgot to take pictures.

500 Pts (5th Ed.)

My list

Librarian w/ JP, Blood Lance, Shield

10x Assault Marines w/ JP, PF, Melta, Flamer

6x Assault Marines w/JP, PW, Melta (Libby is with this group)

His List (The best I can remember)

Rune Priest w/ Stormbolter, Jaws, and Living Lightening

10x Grey Hunters w/ Lightening Claws, Melta, Flamer (Priest ran with these guys)

10x Blood Claws w/ Plasma Gun

Game 1: Annihilation

Short and sweet, My 10 man squad rushed his Grey Hunter and the Libby Squad rushed the Blood Claws. Small Squad decimated his Blood Claws with only a few casualties on my side. However, his Grey Hunters steam rolled my 10 man squad and moved around cover to get to my Libby Squad. Game goes to him in a wicked defeat.

Lessons learned: Shield is not all that great at this point level as there are not that much to field with a lot of AP. I should have used cover a little more in order to whittle him down before the assault. Lightening Claws are monsterous. And above all else the dice gods are cruel. No Blood Lance, No Red thirst, and horrible shooting.

Game 2: Annihilation

The best game we played. Managed to funnel his Blood claws in between 2 sets of cover and I shoot with my 10 man, the flamer does the most damage forcing them to fall back. My Libby uses Blood lance to weaken his Grey Hunters. I push in the assault. Grey hunters go down with a few casualties on my side. Blood Claws are mopped up by my 10 man squad in the following turn with me taking a few wounds. A win to me.

Lessons Learned: Patience payed off this game. I picked targets wisely and it payed off. A hard fought game with both sides taking hits from Shooting and Assaults.

Game 3: Sieze

Finally rolled Red thirst for my Libby squad! However, They get decimated from blood claws shooting from cover and my 10 man takes 1 wound from the Grey Hunters. Still alive I assault the Blood Claws with the Libby squad and crush them and force them to fall back. On his turn he manages to hit my 10 man Sergeant with JoTWW. My turn I take whats left of my Libby Squad and move them to my objective while the larger squad moves next to his blood claws and faces the Grey Hunters down. Shooting was great as the flamer and melta ripped through his grey hunters. Soon after the assault he was tabled!!

Lessons Learned, Despite a huge hit to my Red Thirst squad, board control and sound tactics led to a resounding Victory. Dice Gods favored my shooting phases.

Overall 2-1 Blood Angels.

So my question is, with my friend and I picking up 6th ed. soon. what would be some good units to pick up to round my list up to 750? Keeping in mind that I will fill that 6 man squad to a 10 man squad.

Comments and help are appreciated.

Whilst there are many options available, here's one recommendation and four very different optional choices.

A) Sanguinary Priest

With a jump pack and power weapon it will set you back 90 points but you will feel the added durability on your troops.

Options:

1) Buy a tank.

By that, I mean either a Baal Predator or a regular Predator (ideal set up would be Autocannon and Lascannon sponsons, good for popping Dreadnoughts and Transports). As this moves forward, your jumpers can follow behind it for cover or even LoS blocking.

2) Buy some Attack Bikes

Arguably the very best way to deliver a Multi Melta, it's a steal at 50 points a model. These can follow your jump troops or even move in front of them giving them cover.

3) Buy a "Fragioso"

There really isn't enough plaudits for this guy. With a Drop Pod, a Frag Cannon armed Furisoso Dreadnought is a nasty proposition. Weighing in at 175 points this really is the mean option.

4) Buy a Stormraven

Simply put, why not? Base model is 200 points, gives you a lot of flexibility and has decent weaponry.

What Force Weapon is your Librarian armed with?

Glad the games went well, brother!

You seem to like a jump pack army, though our Assault Marines aren't too threatening these days. You could look at adding a Sanguinary Priest to help them out - toss him a power sword and a jump pack and stick him with one of the squads. Keep him in range for the other squad if possible.

I would highly recommend adding a few Baal Predators with HB sponsons for some much needed firepower.

Another great unit for us is the Furioso Dreadnought w/frag cannon. Take two and stuff them into drop pods. Take a third pod and you can throw 2 Furiosos at your enemy turn one, every time.

If you take a third pod, there are some options. Death Company with bolters, a sword and a fist will kill just about anything. The pod is great for them because their JP pricing is too expensive. If you want more scoring units, a Tactical Squad or another Assault Squad would be a cheap add for the pod - especially since you can combat squad them and leave half on the table, half in pod or both in pod yet engage different targets when thu land - lots of flexibility. Lastly, Sternguard can be devastating in pods, either fully kitted with combi weapons or on the cheap w/special ammunition. They'll surely die on the next turn or two, but can cripple an enemy.

Finally, a squadron of 2 or 3 attack bikes w/multimeltas is really strong for us, especially if you move them within a priest's bubble.

Oh, and Stormravens are great but I don't care for those fancy flying thingies.

^ hah, ninja'd by jolemai.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, all the feed back was very helpful.

@ Jolemai- The Librarian was running a generic force weapon as per 5th Ed. If I remember right (I haven't looked yet) in 6th the power weapons fall into particular categories. My model has a staff that I hacked the end off of and put a Glaive Encarmine blade on, to give it more of a BA flavor. When I make the jump to 6th here soon I really could put it into any catagory, with the exception of a maul maybe. I may need some clarification on this.

@Skyst- I really like the Death Company in a drop pod idea. It gives the opponent something to focus on with i seize objectives or swoop in on his preoccupied units.

I think I'm going to go either dreadnought w/ pod or Baal Pred. I will be definitely be adding 1 Priest, I need that FNP. Just have to make them work in a 750 list.
