Kilofix
Remind me - what's the official stance and / or opinion on same codex as ally? Like IG + IG in order to get 4 IG Heavy Support choices? For a Tournament that allows allies - is the above always allowed? Sometimes allowed - depending on tournament? Never allowed, ..etc? Thanks again! johnyocum
Your allies MUST be from a different Codex (or have a different Chapter Tactics in the case of Codex:Space Marines). It's on the page in the BRB that talks about allies, but my BRB is in my hotel room, not with me here at work. Dam13n
The only codex that openly allows you to take allies from the same codex as your primary detachment is codex: space marines. Supplements are a different issue. As you can ally a supplement allied detachment to a primary from its parent codex and vice-versa. Imperial guard may ally with the forge world lists (elysians, death corps, armoured company) in the same way as a supplement, but straight up guard with guard allies is a no go. The Ilyanden supplement specifically states it *cannot* ally with Codex: Eldar. Heaven knows why... Disruptor_fe404
Sentinels of Terra can't ally with Chapter Tactics: Imperial Fists, and I don't think Clan Raukaan can ally with Chapter Tactics: Iron Hands either. Slightly different apples to your oranges? Maybe. And Farsight fight his lone war against Chaos and considered traitor, still ally Tau, while Shadowsun will give no hesitation shooting a Space Marine, she join centurions and make them ignore cover. Kilofix
Interesting. So an IG army CAN have an IA:Armored Battle Group as an ally with one Troop and a Command Tank w/Beast Hunter shells? Grey Mage
It would appear so, yes. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286140-remind-me-whats-the-view-on-same-codex-as-aly/#findComment-3580520 Share on other sites
Morollan
If anyone could manage to herd the GW design team into a single room and show them the current ally rules (inc supplements and whatnot) I'd be very interested to hear the discussions on the logic behind some of the decisions made. Oz of the North
Though if the tournament is 2000+ points you can use double FOC, you will need 2 hqs and 4 troops, but you will also be able to use 6 heavy support options Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286140-remind-me-whats-the-view-on-same-codex-as-aly/#findComment-3581908 Share on other sites
