Space Crusade Unboxing

Its been a long time coming, but here are the pics from my Space Crusade game I won from Ebay. Mint and unopened for 19 years or so, Space Crusade is to 40K as Heroquest is to Warhammer Fantasy. Created by Milton Bradly and Games Workshop, the game was never sold in America.

The game is packed with models and card, like most great GW games you can't get it back in the box once opened. I've been seeking out a copy for a few years and I wanted to share what was inside since more copies will have already been opened.

Opening the box right away you see a mountain of car sheets. There are counters, card references for the models, doors and 4 large board sections. There are also smaller board sections and a cross shaped card wall that is 3-D.

Here is the Rule Book and the Missions book, much like Space Hulk:

And here is a look inside of the box under the card components:

Tons of sprues there. The Marines can in 3 colors representing 3 Chapters, Blood Angels, Ultramarines and Imperial Fists.

A Closer look at the Marine Sprue:

An assembled Marine Squad:

The figures are meant to be modular and you may choose to have bolters or heavy weapons. The Marine Commander has a choice of 3 weapon options.

For the Alien player you get Chaos Marines, Genestealers, Orks, Gretchen, Chaos Androids and a Dreadnaught.

As you can see the models are well detailed:

The Chaos Marines come on the Sprue with the Genestealers. The Genestealers arms are slightly different pose than the 1st and 2nd ed Space Hulk ones. The Chaos Marines and fantastic and feature bolters, a missile launcher and a Heavy Bolter for the Sgt. I will the considering the Heavy Bolter as a Storm Bolter/Combi Bolter since it is much smaller and not an option for characters in the codexs.

Here is what everyone wants to see, the Chaos Dreadnaught and the Chaos Androids. As you can see Chaos Androids are what the whole Necron race was based on. Back then they bound Daemons in bodies and they were force to follow orders (which they always tryed to pervert the orders they are given as much as possible.)

Next post will have more Sprues and Assembled pics.

Wow, takes me back too. It's what got me into Epic and then 40k. I still have all the components from my copy (but not the box) and the Mission:Dreadnought expansion which introduced heavy dreads, lascannon, tarantulas, conversion beamers and, hmm, what was the other one?

The second picture of the third post makes me very happy - a diagram with most of the Original Chapters (the Raptors are missing) on it. I didn't know Space Crusade was available on the Amiga. A pity as my A600 is set up next to my PS2 and 360 laugh.png It's a very rare thing to see a copy that was never opened/used! blink.png

I've got a copy in my cupboard. I chose to rescue it when I split from my ex, leaving many other things behind.

Biggest problem in our gaming group is everyone wants to be a squad of Marines and no one wants to be the Alien player!

Anyone played with the expansions?

Idaho, yes, I played the Mission Dreadnought expansion and used some of the WD expansions too (Terminator armour is very cool).

Mission Dreadnought is a lot of fun, but the weapons are almost over-powered. That said, multiple dreadnoughts is great for terrifying the marine players. Playing the aliens isn't that bad either.

I once found a complete Space Hulk game in a charity shop and thought I had a good find........

Space Crusade.....sweeeeeeeeeeeet....man this takes me back! I think a friend actually had this, I had Heroquest (ProtectTheWizardAndLetTheBarbarianKillQuest).

Gods I miss these games now.

Here's a pic of the old Dreadnoughts compared with a newer plastic version.
