Forté
Hi. I already have a multi tool and bits that work well on metal but I was wondering if there are any bits suitable for removing details from plastic parts? Ammonius
By multi-tool, do you mean something like a Dremel? Here is the page on the Dremel site that has the high speed cutters that have used on GW plastic and FW resin. Forté
Those look like the type I use on metal. They ok to use on plastic without chewing it to bits? infyrana
I've recently started using a cheap dremel, mostly only work with the Grinding stones (click on that link, then Grinding and Sharpening from the left side, use all stones but not the 'grinding wheels' which I do not use). They work on plastic just fine, not exactly smooth finish, but that's what other tools are for. I have a variable speed and use the lowest speed for best control, and increase a little for more heavy handed work. Idea of the low speed is so you don't chew it to bits if you find that the tool tip you have is too abrasive - which is what you would probably get with those high speed metal cutters initially linked. I work on small parts a lot, so without the low speed control, I'd end up chewing parts and fingers with those cutters. Ammonius
The ones that say they are ok to use on plastic are ok for plastic. For instance, I have used a 100, a 115 and a 191, all of which say in their descriptions that they are (emphasis mine) "A versatile, high-quality cutter made of high-grade steel for use on wood, plastic and soft metals".
