BattleBrotherJohn
Hello My new project for this year is painting a Nurgle marine army based on the Bringers of Decay cult from the Black Legion. I want to paint them a dirty black ( followers of Pappa Nurgle should look unclean IMO , but am not sure how to achieve this sort of look . Dark grey with lots of black washes ? Or lots of dry brushing ? I've looked here in the Painting Tutorials and cannot see anything . Any suggestions ( or links to tutorials ) would be much appreciated. Bryan Blaire
A dingy black (black with grayish-brownish highlighting) can be achieved by using Abaddon Black -> Skavenblight Dinge -> Stormvermin Fur. A dark grey (such as Mechanicus Standard Grey) highlighted some and then washed with Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade would also probably look pretty dingy, but I would make sure to use some matte varnish of some kind on it to quash any shiny parts. Hemal
You are essentially glazing the non-black ares to give the appearance of grime. I'd actually suggest a very dark greay (4/5 black + 1/5 greay or brown-grey) and then wash using pure black in the recesses, and glaze using browns + greens. Add in corrosion (rust and verdigris where appropriate) and the non-pure blackness allows you to add thinks like oil sreaks, rainwater streaks etc etc Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286349-painting-dirty-black/#findComment-3586128 Share on other sites
Anvilarium
You might want to take a look at Weathering powders, and special effect paints such as AK Interactive Rust Streaks, AK Interactive Rain Marks, AK Interactive Slimy Grime (Dark) etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286349-painting-dirty-black/#findComment-3586300 Share on other sites
Hemal
You might want to take a look at Weathering powders, and special effect paints such as AK Interactive Rust Streaks, AK Interactive Rain Marks, AK Interactive Slimy Grime (Dark) etc. + 1 to that - MiG productions is a great wesbite and often railway modelling books have good examples. For true hardcore weathering you are going to want to use oil paints at times though..
