Uprising
In truth 40k have been lacklustering and sadden lately. The betrayal of the tyrannic codex, my favorite fraction, was the final nail in the rotting coffin known as 40k. I love this universe, but I have made my choice to begin my 30k project until 40k return back to normal. I have been lucky enough to obtain the following for my 30k project for $140 1 Sons of Horus Contemptor with two assault cannons 5 cataphractii terminators 12 mak III tactical marines 5 mk III devastator(load out unknown, probably las or missile) 1 Mk II Apoc 1 LE Mk III Boarding Captain 1 mk II predator 2x brass death guard decals. So I am trying to prepare and plan out what would be a good buy next. My legion will most likely be Death Guard, Son of Horus, or salamanders(so hard to choose). Any ideas on whats to get next, I was considering another mk III armor, because their my favorite mark. The Nephilim
What era of the Crusade are you aiming for modeling-wise? There's so many to choose from, I'd think that should bear just as much consideration as what force to field. Kabbala
You don't mention it, so I would say you need to invest in the HH books first. Otherwise, except for a few special units each, all the 30k Legions utilize the same army list. That said, the aesthetics/fluff of the different legions will affect your decision more than how they play. depthcharge12
Welcome to the crew...were gonna need a bigger ship soon too :P I would recommend sallies as the other two you mentioned are quite common now, but don't let that stop you! Also, sallies are getting a new model unit (probably pyroclasts) which you might want Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286368-the-end-of-the-beginning/#findComment-3584506 Share on other sites
Uprising
In general, I know the rules and rites of war for betrayal and massacre. Also, I am well verse in the history of both salamander and Death Guard, simply because I play them in 40k. I consider doing death guard but those new pyroclasts are extremely tempting. Kabbala: Concerning the Horus heresy novels, I have purchase the first three, and simply loving every page of them. I will buy the next three when I finish the first first. Nephilim: I am considering heavily on doing an Istvaan era. The story behind both is so moving, heart breaking, and beautiful. When I think Horus Heresy, I think about the events that occur on both Istvaan. Dethcharge12: I am simply in love with the new pyroclasts, and MK II command set. Sadly I already have a company of salamanders, so a 30k force might be to much. Death Guard on the other hand color scheme is striking and different enough to my 40k death guard. Son of Horus sea form green is also appealing, but not a huge fan of their play style and lore(I like my templates and gun lines). I just got the son of horus comptemptor because it was cheap and include the 5 terminators for free. Hyaenidae
If infernos and immolating your enemies is your thing, the Iconoclasts await. Fire is bright, and fire is clean. Sothalor
If infernos and immolating your enemies is your thing, the Iconoclasts await. Fire is bright, and fire is clean. Unless you're using phosphex and chem-munitions. Then it's dirty, nasty, and glorious. SteelPaladin
Sons of Horus. You've already got the Contemptor, and you already built the other two in their 40k counterparts. If its the play style you are not partial to, then don't worry, there are plenty of generic Rites of War to choose from. You like gunlines? You are in luck, the Reavers can be equipped with Banestrike bolters and have Precision Shots. Perrin
Slightly off-topic but what have you got against the Nid codex? The only thing that I thought was pants was the gargoyles in space bit, but even that could have been rationalised. 30k is definitely better right now. Not just the models and rule books but the novel range is much better than most of the 40k stuff that is coming out, with a few exceptions. Durfast Spiritwolf
Firstly, welcome to 30k :-) I think Kabbala means the other HH books, ie betrayal and massacre :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286368-the-end-of-the-beginning/#findComment-3586606 Share on other sites
