Grimtooth
I am looking at adding a couple of elements to my Wolves force in the form of allies at 2k points. This is my first idea with tactics involving bringing in some White Scars brethren led by Kor'sarro. Here is the basic breakdown of forces, FORCES BREAKDOWN Bran Redmaw Wolf Priest w/Saga of the Hunter Grey Hunter x10 Grey Hunter x10 Fenrisian Wolves x15 Long Fangs w/MLx5, Razorback w/twn-linked asscans Long Fangs w/MLx5, Razorback w/twn-linked asscans Kor'sarro Bike Squad x8 + Attack Bike Bike Squad x8 + Attack Bike or Tactical Squad x10 w/Rhino or Dev Squad w/MLx4, Razorback w/twn-linked asscans TACTICAL BREAKDOWN Now with the special rules of both Bran and Kor'sarro combined, we form MechaWolfScarZoid!!! But no really, between Bran Redmaw granting his special rules of Outflank and the Wolf Priest granting them as well, Grey Hunters can get to come in from the sides. With the Khan granting Outflank and Scout, we see a bit of flexibility of those units coming in from the edges as well OR being placed forward via Scout. The combination of forces that you could put into Reserve while following the 50% rule are pretty numerous as you can choose between the Outflanking forces or Scouting forces. This list with options is basically 2k points with upgrades. You will notice the lack of our tested and true rune priest which believe me caused a bit of a lump in my throat to present it here. However, I can drop the Fenrisian Wolves down to the minimum and fit a rune priest into the mix if needed. The list also features 4 Troop choices at 2k points, but with the added bonus of being able to Combat Squad the White Scar forces increasing that to 6 Troop choices at 2k points. You will see the additional option of dropping one of the Bike squads and replacing it with a WS Tactical Squad embarked on a Rhino. Again we get to see the possibility of using the embarked unit, including the Rhino, to Scout or Outflank and Combat Squad leaving the heavy weapon with the Long Fangs and rest of the squad to possibly bodyguard all your heavy weapons. The same applies to the Bike Squad being able to Combat Squad with one on armor hunting duty with the Attack Bike and the other to raise hell against infantry. With any list in the current meta, you need to think flyer defense. Despite a clear lack of dedicated anti-air in the above list, you are throwing up an insane amount of firepower. The Razorbacks can basically move and shoot as they already need 6's to hit flyers so the penalty for moving is moot. The Long Fangs are tossing up 10 ML a turn as well as the heavy weapon in the Tactical Squad. The last choice is to dump one the WS Tactical Squad or Bike Squad and toss in a small Devastator Squad with Flak and and additional Razorback with twin-linked asscan. Keep them with the Long Fangs and use Prescience from the Rune Priest on them for re-rolling missed to hits on 4 flak equipped ML. CONCLUSION So thinking this is a very good mix of special rules and synergy between two different forces. Thoughts? PupLord
I TOTALLY LOVE THIS! I agree with the synergy being there having pondered on very similar ideas as well. I would most likely take the tactical squad over the other bike squad mainly due to the bikes requiring movement to be at their most effective so to me it seems like the more static tactical squad would bring tactical options on the table (such as objective keeping, providing a little staying power or just providing a larger footprint to block critical areas on the board etc.). Also I would probably try to shave a couple of points from the list to try and include a Stormtalon gunship on the list as well to help with the flyer defense and bring about a nasty annoyance for your opponent who, let's face it, is playing against the Wolves and thus not expecting a gunship flyer of our own. In my oppinion out of all possible candidates the IG and the Scars compliment the Wolves best (of battle brother allies that is). Just my 2 cents... -Pup Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286424-redmawkhan/#findComment-3586401 Share on other sites
DanPesci
Looks a good plan, im building a similar outflank army using wolf priests and redmaw...current cash needs to go into my redmaw conversion, but after that im toying with the idea of taking some white scars or red scorpions as an allied detachment in bigger games (for a bit of a changup both ruleswise, and for modelling for me). I thin the white scars rules fit in really nicely with what you are trying to do with the outflank wolves too, (and the background fluff to both chapters seems to mesh quite well). Didnt realise you could combat squad bike squads, that makes them pretty handy! EDIT - alsopoint you seemed to have missed (but probably havent) - is that redmaw allows one of your GH units to infiltrate (i think), so you could outflank one GH with the wolf priest, outflank some FW with bran, (hope they both come on turn 2!), then infiltrate/scout move the rest of your bikes/GH unit into the midfield. Prety nice aggressive list! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286424-redmawkhan/#findComment-3587063 Share on other sites
