Combat_Vet
Greets and thanks for taking a look. I am expanding my Night Lords and I am currently working on my terminator squad. Slow going as always Most of my inspiration for them is coming from the collection visions HH art book. Except one piece and I will get to that shortly. My marines are mostly a modified "doghouse" pattern and so I need to find a way to build a termie from the ground up.http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/800EA7A1-1378-4D55-870C-D8A9AA5885D2_zps1endqhfh.jpgComparison to the DV marineshttp://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/5797E324-2870-48EE-B00D-1F063948EC6B_zps9ohirsw8.jpgNow for the apology and the last piece of inspiration. While working on the CoC I was looking though the board and I saw an amazing concept for a NL lightning claw. I lost the thread and have been unable to find it. I am sure my work does not do justice to the original idea but if you recognize it please say something. It was a perfect idea and truly deserves proper praise. So, I am sorry I am unable to provide it the moment. (EDIT - I was looking at Brother Heinrich's and Forte's threads mostly at the time so I would think the idea is lost in one of them somewhere)Lighting claw concepthttp://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/B11C09BB-3013-4683-BE2B-573B4C0B0AAC_zps2ls78b2j.jpgThanks again for the look and as always any C&C is welcome and requested and pointers especially. Lexington
Holy molasses, that's an impressive Terminator. Love the bulk and brutality of it. Brother-Chaplain Kage
I'm not usually a fan of "true" or art scale marines, but that terminator is awesome. My only little nitpick is the ponytail sticking out of the top of the armor... looks a bit odd. Combat_Vet
@Brother Heinrich - I will take that in a good way :)  @ Lexington -thanks. I wanted to have the feel of "Tactical Dreadnaught Armor"  @ Brother Chaplain Kage- I am not a huge fan myself, but I want to stay true to the artwork when I can. I think it symbolizes the horsehair plumes from the Roman Legions so I do like that aspect of it to be honest.  I am not working all that slow really. I am also working on this guy: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Mobile%20Uploads/5FEA75DE-1BC5-46B4-B258-4977DADB1517_zps97wcrxwj.jpg  http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Mobile%20Uploads/AC795BF0-9AFA-4A4A-B777-E9BE6C615940_zps3tbohgob.jpg  As well as a squad of wolves for the army. Watchers I will call them for now I guess. I am still working out the storyline and kinks in my fluff LoL Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286518-my-first-atramentar-scratch-built-termies/#findComment-3587838 Share on other sites
Noctus Cornix
The torso looks extremely wonky from the front perspective. The top hump looks vastly larger than the torso itself and the hands look extremely scrawny. Has potential but it needs work. Combat_Vet
Thanks for pointing that out. I very much agree with you about the hands. I picked up some Evergreen barstock in .06" to attempt to create fingers, so this weekend I will be trying to make hands. I am assuming you mean the one holding the axe and the arms in general of course. I will be trying to make the arms a little larger around but not longer. Did you mean something else or did I understand you correctly? Noctus Cornix
No, no. You got what I was trying to say, even when I said it rather incorrect. If I'm honest though, I think you might want to also switch to a different Power Fist. They always come out looking rather small on a Terminator, if you ask me. Combat_Vet
I may end up having to build the fist from scratch as well due to the size of the termie. He is in the early stages and it's good to catch these things now before too much time is invested into it (though TBH that's the fun of the hobby). Thanks for the comments, they will really help to pull the guy together in the end. Forté
That is, personally, a crazy amount of work on a mini. You sir have have a special kind of lunacy which is a joy to watch. Another to watch.  As for the fist. It wasn't in my thread. Maybe Heinrich's or Flint13's. Doghouse
Loving that Terminator, seriously cool work there and I am in awe of your dedication to the model. Superb stuff! Koriel
Lovely work, the level of detail is a joy to behold. One thing that caught my eyes though, is that the shoulders appears to be situated above the neck. Other then that he's one terrific model and I can't wait to see him finished. Combat_Vet
@Forte - thanks. I am thinking it was Heinrich's thread with his lord. I am digging through the 47 pages now to find the post. Â @Doghouse - thanks a bunch. I have found I enjoy building just as much as I enjoy painting recently. Â @Koriel - I see what you mean. I will try to drop shoulder and the arm but leave the shoulder pads roughly where they are. Maybe I can add cables/fiber bundles to the new space. I still need to add leather staps an. Chainmail to the shoulder pads as well. Combat_Vet
Started working on the arms. Kind of looks like Mickey Mouse, but I still need to shave and file it a little. I like the result a lot more than the little hands so far. I also added the bat wing to the axe I am hoping it " deork-ified" it enough.  http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/73DCC52D-E640-4703-9395-26FE39F4B2A0_zpsv275vztc.jpg  Thoughts? Kronus Stormbringer
Much better arm in my opinion, once you model the leather and chain and the shoulder pad into the mix it should look very very good. RolandTHTG
The Axe looks great! If you are looking for a sculpted power fist, was it maybe DarkVen's nightlords? Combat_Vet
@TJWyrm - YES!! I should have remember DarkVen's work. Thank you so very much.  The original idea for the lightning claw belongs 100% to Greyall. He posted the idea in DarkVen's NL thread (PG18).  I will be shooting him a private message apologizing for the slow time in giving proper credit.  Thanks again brother, you have really taken a load off my shoulders. I know it sounds stupid but I hate stealing without giving credit. Combat_Vet
Knocked out the base of the power fist so I can start filing and adjusting the lengths for the arms.  http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/657714A4-0861-40C8-A345-881CB621BAC9_zps9ohfyrrk.jpg  http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/C082583C-CDAB-4DEA-B9FF-BC2FC52BEECD_zps3vreaihs.jpg  He is magnatized at the elbow to allow weapon swaps ( as the whole squad will be). The bigger power fist gives me an opportunity to do a better job on the icon themed lightning claw. I will wait a few days to see if I get any positive/negative feedback prior to starting that though (as I probably should have the first time LoL)  Thanks again for all the input so far and any ideas and C&C is always welcome and requested. Ch@oZ
Quite an undertaking to scratch-build terminators. I absolutely love it. Combat_Vet
@Jeremy- I always wondered why there was such a drop from Dreadnaughts to Tactical Dreadnaught Armor. Termies are almost the size of marines straight out of the box and only slightly larger than guardsman. This is my second attempt to address the problem as I see it. Â @Ch@oz- thank you. I am having a blast. I can't remember a more fun model to build. I am starting to look forward to the next one already LoL Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286518-my-first-atramentar-scratch-built-termies/#findComment-3589023 Share on other sites

Koriel
Lowering the shoulders made him look much more realistic imo, so nice work. The arms are looking great and the fist is just awesome. Combat_Vet
Worked a little on the fist.  http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Bolter%20and%20Chainsword%20Marine/ABD23B13-FB1D-4A64-A89C-C24E4710A078_zps4nvcisv9.jpg  The fingers seem a little spidery to me but for my first attempt I am pretty happy. The next one should be be better. Practice makes perfect they say. I still have at least four more of these to build for the squad plus a lord so by the end I should have the scale down pat. Then I can start messing up a "true scale" Dreadnaught hahahaha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286518-my-first-atramentar-scratch-built-termies/#findComment-3589812 Share on other sites
