FW Khârn

Recommended Posts

I think we where spoiled with Typhon, Khârn was the model I was most looking forward to. But I just dont like him, thinks its the pose and lack of arm armour. Also kind of wish he had the crest he is describe as having. I do love his helmet and would like to arm a rampage squad with them.

Overall I think he is the weakest of the Character Series, which is a massive shame.

He has a crest, it's not prominent like others, however. His armor was always described as quite plain, especially for someone of his esteem. I just can't imagine Khârn with a plume, it doesn't fit him at all.

And as far as weakest model in the Character Series, that goes completely to Kor Phaeron and his 'Where am I?' expression.

Unfortunately this fig just didn't wow me at all, which is a real shame, his legs look like a lady stepping over a little fence whilst the world is falling on its side - he's angled far too much for my personal pref.

Having said that, it is slowly growing on me a little... not much though, I suspect I will eventually get it and make a few minor adjustments.

I prefer the helmeted version, but I dislike the helmet from the side view.  I dislike the head piece simply because of the size proportions.  It's like they had two blocks the same size and sculpted both face and helmet without making the head sized to fit inside the helmet.  The eyes on the helmet seem very low and squished.

On a positive note, it's nice to see both melee weapon options, as well as both heads.  The chopped arm of the fallen marine is a nice touch as is the rest of the base, but the pose of the fallen marine needs sorting out.

With regards to scar features / time period of this model - as I am no fluff bunny when it comes to Khârn, if for example this was Istvaan 3 or earlier (pre-scarred face), is it right that he would have bare arms?

IIRC it's mentioned that he chained Gorechild to his bare wrist in honour of the dead at Nuceria, right at the end of Betrayer. I agree with you on most points, and I think the model will look better with his legs closer together similar to the plastic Assault Marine legs. I still wonder if his head is too big or his helmet is too small though..

Love this mini..and so great to see an updated (although historical) take on the old Khârn model..chained to wrist chainaxe..skull on the plasma pistol..good stuff

As far as the pose, will reserve judgment till seen the model in person..not all of forgeworlds photography gets the models at the right angles

But chopped off marines arm!!

@Tdf4638 Thanks for the info. I've got a Forge World order on the way that will be painted up as Raven Guard so I'll keep that in mind.

I'm always amazed at the breadth of knowledge posters have on this site.

I looked it up in one of the old White Dwarfs I have on my bookcase, I haven't memorised everything in every Index Astartes article ever...

In that case I'm amazed at the breadth of old gw content posters on this site have. :D

Also, Forge World characters need more chopped off marine limbs.

Been looking at helmet on/off and still can't say which I prefer...swaying towards bare head though would prefer to see a close up for at look at the nails, think the bit on his face is or comms, before final judgement. As for the pose, think of it being a falling Raven Guard, instead of fallen

Also, think this is set at the Dropsite Massacre so wouldn't be Gorechild plus maybe the artwork in Betrayer is his shiny new armour after being plowed by a Land Raider?

Personally I think he is cool and I kind of wonder if this mean Edgar is going to work on some of the special characters for the moment while Simon works on the primarchs but back to Khârn! I agree with a lot of people that I prefer the helmet somethings about the butchers nails doesn't sit right with me and also the pose reminds me of Fulgrim where it is a little odd BUT I think that a simple cut and repose would work awesome on both Fulgrim and Khârn ;)

It seems like I am one of the few that really likes this version of Khârn, and that's unfortunate because I've always admired the fine line that FW treads with their HH figures and especially the characters in not making them all blinged out and gaudy like the thinbloods of 40k.

Also, it's very evocative of one of my favorite old pieces of 40k art and I'm a bit saddened that no one else picked up on it. Let me just mirror this pic of Khârn...

As soon as I saw him, I smiled because I could tell the sculptor had done his homework and was reaching back into the hallowed beginnings of the game for inspiration.

And for whoever mentioned Kor Phaeron, I was SO pumped when they showed the in-progress pic of him with this AMAZING head! I don't even LIKE the Word Bearers that much and it made me want to buy this guy. Remember? This is the awesome we could have had:

If you look at Khârn's helm from the side pictures it looks like a hound's head.

Personaly i love him with the bare arms, the helm can easily be changed by the one from the 40k klharn with the bunny ears cut off.

@BCK - EXACTLY. The Kor Phaeron WIP head looked amazing, but as I said the final product looks pitiful. Khârn, however, is awesome. I would probably use the helmetless head elsewhere, but the model looks great. I don't know what everyone was expecting. I think it's a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't."

Dear dark gods... best idea ever or worst idea ever... Game of Thrones inspired Space Marines... Obviously Khârn would be a good base for the Hound. A Sanguinary Guard for Jamie. A goodly Wolflord for poor Ned.

Damn you WarSpirit... Curse you for this line of thinking!

I felt the same about Kor Phaeron! What the Hell happened to make them change?!

Also I really dig Khârn! At the end of the day, as iconic as he is he is a Marine in Power armour. There is only so much can be done to make him unique before it goes too far and doesn't fit the Heresy era flavour anymore.
