FW Khârn

Recommended Posts

Dear dark gods... best idea ever or worst idea ever... Game of Thrones inspired Space Marines... Obviously Khârn would be a good base for the Hound. A Sanguinary Guard for Jamie. A goodly Wolflord for poor Ned.

Ha, brilliant!

And trying to get yourself a Tyrion will end up with being ejected from a GW store ;)

I really like him in the World Eaters' white and blue. His pose is ok with me, I can even go with the armor-less arms.

The only thing that actually bugs me is that weird, stumpy little plasma pistol. It looks like a mistake. Good thing it's *the* most easily convertible thing ever.

Two things:

1.) does anyone else feel that the handle of that plasma pistol is like in the middle of gun? It's just weird and T shaped

2.) does anyone feel the his leg armor is "fat"? Look at the raven Gaurd next to him for comparison. His armor just looks really bulky to me. It's like Edgar worked on Khârn right after Kor Phaeron and made Kharns leg armor as big as the termie suit.

Maybe I'm just CRAAAZY

You're not wrong on how it looks, but I think it's the skull ornamentation adding length behind the handle rather than the gun itself.

I would agree with everyone else, with the combination of the baby crest, fat legs and bare arm it is not a model that I will be picking up. Honestly, I am not extremely impressed by anything sculpted by Edgar. Hopefully the Iron Warriors characters will be sculpted by Simon Egan instead.

No I think you hit on it. I think that's what bugs me about it. The skull off the back end makes it look weirdly disproportionate.

The #2 I can't quite agree on though. I have always though the legs and thighs of some of the earlier marks look oddly skinny. Khârn looks like the steroid-fueled man fridge that he is, telephone pole thighs and all.

the issue is... Khârn actually has better proportions than the other minis, actually looks like a genhanced super soldier might have a chance to fit inside it... it's just odd looking when compared to the entirety of the range, I think I may get him to convert into my deathwatch character though...

This.

There have only been a few marine models from either FW or GW where the legs were anywhere close to being in proper proportion to the rest of the body and it's one of the things I really like about this version of Khârn

Typher, indeed, from my perspective it's no where near as good as the Typhon model.

As for comments regarding the leg thickness, indeed.  If you take most marine models and put them into 2D, draw where the actual marine would be inside, you'll find that he'd look very odd indeed.  We're pushed by 'cool' aesthetics as to what a marine would look like, not by practical actual real example.  So whilst this Khârn model looks to have thick chunky legs, to those who think more realistically, it is probably closer to the truth than not.
