Emperor's Furor
I'm really thinking of doing this since I can't decide on a legion from the heresy but perhaps I could do something unique with the crusade in mind. So it got me thinking of the early schemes and I looked at the two different Salamanders ones, the dark green with the yellow shoulder pad or the yellow armour with the black winding shape like the image below. Do you think it's worth it? I mean int he end I won't get much in the way of the special rules etc since they only come about when the Primarch re-organises them. It also means I'll not be able to do much in the way of symbols etc unless I free hand which I'm not that good of. Apparently at this time the salamanders, known unofficial as "the Fearless" 18th adopted the Saturyne Ram. The yellow scheme also makes me think that why bother doing them if I could just do Imperial Fists who are kind of my favourite legion but yellow is a pain to do on a large scale. The more generic scheme at the time was as I mentioned the "Dark Angels" green with a yellow shoulder pad, black rims and a black rams head. I think I could do that well since I favour painting green and blue. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0cXB6alawKw/T_H1ufRah0I/AAAAAAAAAAs/6i8xYDaBlq0/s1600/SalamandersRogueTrader.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286674-painting-crusade-era-salamanders/ Share on other sites
DuskRaider
I think it would be cool. I'd do the camo-pattern on Recon Marines, perhaps Veterans. Iron Hands Fanatic
In Massacre, it says that when the XVIII assaulted the tempest galleries, their notable battle, they wore black & yellow camouflage - which is probably a reference to that picture, just to give you a reference to the era you'd be looking at. Then again, if you like the Salamanders special rules, you could view it as a common pattern of camo they use, and just do an army based around a campaign in which they used it, post the unification with Vulkan.
