Reclusiarch Darius
i actually like using Jokaero, purely because we lack some hard hitting long range AP2...S8 autocannons are great against lighter armour, as in AV12 or worse, but they do far worse against AV13+...and they arent AP2 so cant blow up a vehicle With the new damage chart, even AP2 needs 6's to blow up now. You're actually better off going for HP damage over trying to one-shot a vehicle these days. Melta strips HP very reliably and due to AP1, on a 5+ you blow it up. Monkeys are not efficient fire support on their own, and they're even easier to kill than normal Acolytes. Jokaero give access to the only lascannons in the codex...and taking 2 of them gives you a better chance of rolling something useful on the chart...my Favs are increased range and rending, as i usually run them with some plasma servs, making S7 rending all round the army... Yeah you can't get the 'draws monkeys on your gun' result, thank Throne, but its still a randumb buff. Some of them are quite meh (5+ invuls, +1 to armour save), so you could end up with a whole lot of nothing anyway. You spend a lot of points on a fragile unit, and in the end it doesn't do what you want. YYMV. but the chart isnt the primary reason i take them...dont use them in a CC unit...or not even a shorter range unit or they fire snapshots...and always put a psyker in the unit to give them rerolls to hit Ohhhhh...wow, can't believe I forgot that one. I'm gonna go edit my post from before. Silly me, I knew there was a reason I cut the 3 Inquisitors I usually run in that list...yes, definitately take free Presicence across the squads. It's the best 10 points I didn't spend before lol. IndigoJack
Jokaero give access to the only lascannons in the codex... I think you might want to reread your codex. Dreadnoughts (both varieties), razorbacks, stormravens, and land raiders can take lascannons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286698-what-do-gk-competitive-lists-look-like-nowadays/page/3/#findComment-3749269 Share on other sites

Dreadnoughts (both varieties), razorbacks, stormravens, and land raiders can take lascannons True, although there is no reason to take lascannon these days. One-shotting vehicles has been made very hard for non AP1, and even for AP1, you want Tank Hunters or some other buff to ensure you explode them. On Dreads autocannons are so much better (4 shots over 1), razors want assault cannon for the same reason, same for Ravens (plus they get a multi-melta on the nose), Land Raiders are bad. Grand Master Caloth
Actually a lot of times when I run razors, I run psybolt heavy bolters. The 36" range str 6 actually can make a difference Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286698-what-do-gk-competitive-lists-look-like-nowadays/page/3/#findComment-3750371 Share on other sites
Ozshock
yeh what i actually meant by "only lascannon in the dex" was that they are the only one you would use let me clarify... LR's - crusaders or there is no point taking them...as a gun platform the others are decent, but too costly...better to use them as a delivery system for a combat unit and the 16 slots is a must...i generally take a 10man purifier and add in a couple of IC's, or terminators...and the crusader witha 5point psyammo can rip hordes to shreds...much better paired with my henchmen shooty unit DN's - why would you go anything BUT dual AC's? very cheap and only 1 strength point off the Las with psyammo SRavens - i always stay with the rending S7 assault cannon (with psyammo) and the melta is plenty for anti vehicle...my meta brings alot more than just vehicles to blow up, and you have better options for that anyway...and if you bring the hurricane...who doesnt love S5 at 12 shots? rerolling BS4? smokes orks for breakfast (another reason why LRCrusader) RBacks - its either warp charge caddy, or assault cannon...either one is very useful and very cheap...LCannons are good but i generally keep my points down using the HBolter on a last note i dont see anyone in the GK forums go for lascannons AT ALL...Jokaero are 35 points...get a free lascannon and CAN buff ur squad, pair them with plasma cannon and they become a long range unit you can hide on the back end of the board and push everything else forward, and you dont have to give them a transport...generally speaking ofc the opponent wont realise how dangerous a few well placed shots with this squad can hurt...from TEQ to MC's to any vehicle and even lighter units with the blast...and if you roll rending or the 12" range, both very good for the squad, they become so much better at what they do well already...adding in that psyker for rerolls and ur set... although it does generally cost you 10 warp charge per turn to give 2 of these squads rerolls... PS: i generally tend to ignore everything i wouldnt use in the dex :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286698-what-do-gk-competitive-lists-look-like-nowadays/page/3/#findComment-3752348 Share on other sites

I've used Jokaero before in my normal lists, and they just don't pan out man. All that stuff is so random and 'maybe if this happens', you cannot rely on them. Four Jokaero is the same points as a PsyDread. Let that sink in for a moment. If you really want to play with Jokaero, take the Dr Zaius list. Its absurd and probably won't win you games, but the look on your opponents faces after your Turn 1 shooting phase is priceless. robotoctopuss
Jokaeros lascannons and heavy flamers are what i buy them for, the buffs are just a bonus. i've run 2 monkies with 3 plasma servs and a psyker inq in a chim loads in 6th and was one of my strongest units. it out ranges a lot of things, is geared to murder ap2 and vehicles and can use the flamers during overwatch which is hilarious. Im pretty new to the game but I've had a blast with Jokaero. the only downside is no longer being able to prescience in a chim as bs3 can be a killer. For a turn, maybe. 36" is well within the range of most armies, and Henchmen are very easy to kill off. I run plasma servitors as well and I always buy a meatshield of 9 Acolytes, and even then they still die a lot of the time. Im pretty new to the game but I've had a blast with Jokaero. the only downside is no longer being able to prescience in a chim as bs3 can be a killer. For casual play they're fun and at least do something (looking at you, Daemonhost). The nerfs to psychic power casting is annoying, so just run them on foot with big ablative shields of Acolytes. Still dirt-cheap and the more squads you take the better.
