Vile Siren
Quick question what is a good protective matte spray to use on your models when they are done? I have the citadel purity seal spray from GW and it makes my minis a little foggy and I shaked the can for 10 minutes so I think I may want to try a better brand if there is one. thanks for any help offered! MedPig
I use Rustoleum's "Matte Finish", never had a problem with it, *IF* you follow the directions. Don't spray it if it's too humid, anything over 60% humidity, you risk frosting the mini like a bad bathroom window. On low-humidity days, it dries in a couple minutes, clear, good flat finish, and tolerates handling well. For pieces you're going to use on the table, I'd spray two coats, just to be sure. Hyrion
I use Schmincke Matt Varnish, best matt varnish i've seen so far, cause it really matts your mini and through Capillary action it turns out really great, http://www.greatart.co.uk/Paints/Oil-paints/Oil-painting-mediums-and-additives/Schmincke-Matt-Varnish-for-Oil-Paintings.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286729-good-protective-spray/#findComment-3592161 Share on other sites
Warsmith Aznable
Testor's Dullcote is what I use for a final spray. Sometimes I use Krylon clearcoat as a base, then put the Testor's on top of that. That can give lots of layers of protection fairly cheap, just make sure the Krylon is completely dried and cured before putting the Testor's on top. MordentHex
Tamyia(forget how to spell it) mr grey clear coat. works great for a final clear coat and is great for sealing resin before puting on your primer. It is a little more xpencive than others already stated. Its used alot of japanese models and such, really easy to use even in higher humidity. Kaedes Nex
Testor's Dullcote lacquer for quality, Army Painter Anti-Shine Matte acrylic for price. Tamiya probably makes a good version, likely enamel or acrylic, and Krylon probably does an acrylic one as well for the ultra budget option. Hyaenidae
I swapped to Army Painter's matte sealer a while back, after running into "Mr. Fog" myself. Haven't had a problem since, even in cold or moist conditions. Kaedes Nex
That's probably due to Army Painter having a very different spray than other spraypaints. The can is much more highly pressurized, and the formula is extremely fast drying. Anyone that's used Army Painter sprays will notice how you have to hold the can much closer to the model than with other brands and spray more carefully so you don't drown the model. Gurth
Tamyia(forget how to spell it) mr grey clear coat.Tamiya is spelled “Tamiya” However, if the name of the stuff is “Mr. [whatever]”, you’re talking about a product by Gunze-Sangyo.
