Welcome to the Vostroyan 53rd
Or more specifically its 4th company

This has been a project on hold for some time but I now have developed a love for guard again and so I've begun to paint through my Vostroyan army. The 4th is a company that is comprised mainly of newer recruits due to it's constant heavy losses, this is not to say however that the troops are all fresh, in fact there are many an uncle and father to the new recruits spread throughout the platoons. More detailed fluff will be given in the future but without any further delay here's a small group from Platoon 0141:

Now for the close ups:

Here's a front and rear view so you can get an idea of what the complete model looks like.

On that last pic the eyes are an even colour but the gloss on one has reflected the light more that the other.

I can't wait to share more and I have close ups of the faces I might share to show the detail more, anyway please all feel free to leave comments and criticism it'll really help me out laugh.png

Well the plan is to have (at 1500pts); a company command squad with a master of ordnance, a platoon with a special weapons squad of melta guns, another platoon with two heavy weapon squads one of which is 3 heavy bolters and another is 3 lascannons, a 10 man battle psyker squad, 2 demolishers and a aegis defence line. (
The platoon with the meltas leave the defence line and push forwards to capture objectives with the demolishers while everything else stays back at base while the psykers lower the leadership of units I really need gone in the hope that if I don't take them off of the board I'll at least get them to flee.

I'll post a more in depth list here or in the list section at some point in the future.

Thanks for the support as well laugh.png

honestly can't wait to see more. not exactly a massive fan of the vostroyans myself as i've never really looked at them. however, this may persuade me to think again. the models look awesome close up, you have a fantastic talent there. clean and crisp detail, especially the faces. will be keeping an eye on this msn-wink.gif

I really appreciate the support and I'm glad you like them laugh.png I see a lot of people saying they aren't the biggest fans of Vostroyans but I've fallen in love with their odd charm. Thanks for the compliments and I'll share the next batch when I get them done soon (probably Sunday).

I too have never been that attracted to the Vost', but I do want to see more of your IG.

Very nice work so far.

Cheers for the support laugh.png I've noticed very few guard players use them, I guess they're the marmite of the guard ranges tongue.png

Excellent stuff, they look really good! biggrin.png The colours are just what you'd expect to see Vostroyans in, I can only make one criticism: not enough Guardsmen laugh.png

I couldn't help doing them in the vanilla colour scheme I just love it so much tongue.png Thanks a bunch for the support and don't worry more will be coming biggrin.png

As a taster here's the faces close up:

I always thought that the Vostroyans, would make excellent Fenrisian, PDF. The look was rugged, and the fur hats, the Standard bearer even had the look. Throw some wolf skulls, and some pelts around and do a grey,or white, uniform, camo. If they hadn't been metal I would proably have gotten some. I might still get some in the future just for kicks. Your Voss, are looking real good !

absolutly love the faces and the gold tones on them!

Why thank you laugh.png Its the Vallejo liquid gold range, the old gold to be more precise, they're a pain to work with but when you get a wash on top of them they look awesome!

A friend of mine who used to play wolves before he switched to ultramarines (THE FOOL) was thinking along the same lines and like you he was put off by the idea of having to use metal. Personally metal is my favourite material to work with due to the weight it gives the minis, my second favourite being the resin that FW use. Anyway thanks for support laugh.png

Those faces are fantastic, I demand more! laugh.png

AND HERE'S MORE woot.gif

The sergeant:

Next up on the painting line will either be a command squad or the overseer for the psykers, I'm leaning towards doing the overseer first so that my painting remains varied and doesn't become monotonous. Anyway please let me know what you think and check in soon for more laugh.png

Very nicely done sir. Makes me wish I had the time to get out the paints myself

Why thank you laugh.png Its always difficult finding time to paint since its not exactly the quickest process in the world.

Great work, are we going to see vehicles at some point too?

Are you doing any more to the bases? They look fine but could do with a little bit of sprucing up to help the models pop, maybe some dead grass?

There will be vehicles in the future but right now I only have infantry plus I have another project which is for Bolt Action, as for the bases they are themed to be in an urban area of some sort so grass would not work well but I'm considering adding barbed wire and other such items.

Very nice work!

I vote for the Overseer as I'd love to see a Vost' PBS. smile.png

I'm at an impasse regarding how to theme the battle psykers, I'm not sure whether to go down the route of an attached unit to the regiment or to have an actual vostroyan themed unit. Decisions sad.png

If you were to do a Vost'-themed-PBS...how would you do it?

Modify metal Vost' models? That might limit you to sergeant models (due to weaponry)...

Or convert some other models to look Vosty?

It would be quite a challenge...but look great if you could pull it off. :)

A bit of barbed wire and building debris would be perfect for those bases thumbsup.gif

An actual Vostroyan PBS would be great but a lot of work to do. Even modifying existing models would require a hefty investment of time and effort - how good is your green stuffing? It may be best to use other/psyker models for them. It's not breaking the theme by any means to have them equipped differently, though I would recommend a Vostroyan Overseer which would be easy to do and tie them in to the army nicely smile.png

me too, just finished rebel winter, if i didnt already have a load of mad robot kurgans ready to go i probably would have to get some vostroyans

anychance of a crazy priest with eviscerator running about?

for the pbs maybe wait a month in case they get dropped from the new dex? hate to spend all that time and then gw take them away

I did wonder about this, but with sanctioned psykers in the IG Apoc psychic formation I hope this is an indication that we won't be losing the PBS.

I really hope not.

Goes back to painting his own PBS.

Great stuff. If I wasn't already building a Krieg army I would probably be very strongly tempted by a Vostroyan army, especially after seeing this thread. Bravo!

I did a quick eBay search and, astonishingly, Kislev stuff actually isn't that hard to find. For example, this seems like a pretty good deal that could be the basis for a Vostroyan-ish PBS or conscripts. Just as an example (must admit I'm tempted to buy this box myself):

You raise a very good point that I hadn't considered, hmmmm I may put the squad on hold until the new codex is released to see what happens with them and just focus on the infantry for now. At least it'll give me time to focus on the standard guys for now. laugh.png

Now that's a damn good deal considering their age and availability, when it comes to converting the archers hold a lot of options that I'll have to consider.

THE OTHER OPTION HOWEVER

(That I just thought of)

Vostroya holds close ties to the ad mech and an attached detachment of techno psykers or something along those lines could be very interesting and would work well fluff and modelling wise.
