Lenios
Right then... I've been absent from the forums for a very long time, partially because I had a long break from the hobby. But now I am back, and Ibring some new models with me. When I saw the new tactical squad come out, I decided I'd try and do this again, and actually build a usable army this time. So prepare to witness my slightly improved modelling skillsand my complete lack of painting skills. TACTICAL SQUAD First on the list of things to do was this aforementioned tactical squad. I built themalmost entirely from parts included in the box, with a couple of little extrasfrom my bitz box. Let's start with a group shot. http://i60.tinypic.com/25imzoo.jpg Please excuse my terribly grubby window There they are, in all their glory, 7 marines with bolters, one flamer, one missile launcher and one sergeant with power sword and bolt pistol. One marine carries the squad banner (squad banners are a chapter thing; every squad has one, not usually carried by the sergeant) Speak of the devil; here's a close up of the sergeant. http://i58.tinypic.com/14b52ky.jpg He's built with the MK8 chestplate and has an iron halo on his shoulder. I used the flamer head becausemy chapter are based on a planet which has an non-breathable atmosphere (If youwant explanation of that, I'll explain), so he wears the mask to be able to gowithout a full battle helm. (I still don't get why sergeants think that's a good idea) You may have noticed a marine with a rather odd backpack;he's a comms marine, he carries a vox-caster. Again, this is due to thecharacteristics of their chapter planet (interference etc). http://i58.tinypic.com/292trnn.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/ambjx5.jpg [Edit - I found 2 pictures. Ah well, the more the merrier] The vox-caster is made from a normal SM backpack and the Cadian vox-caster. The eagle eyed of youmay notice a scroll attached to the caster, this is to cover up a hole wherethe component would usually go on a guardsman's back. These guys will get painted soon, and I'll have a couple of HQ choices for you as well. Constructive Criticism is welcome, as always. I hope you'll stick with me through really bad painting and huge gaps in posting, and I hope to get back into the hobby far enough to improve my skills. ~Lenios Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286854-blazing-suns-a-very-irregular-blog/ Share on other sites
Stercus
That sergeant is nicely done. There's a small bit of ick on the purity seal at his waist though, nothing a quick scrape with a knife won't see off. Is that sword from the new tactical set? Oh, so there is, I'll go fix that right away. Also, yes, the sword comes with the new Tactical Squad. Lenios
COLOUR SCHEME So, I've made some SMP images of my chapter colours. This is what they're supposed to end up looking like, but with my painting skill, that's highly unlikely. That's the chapter colour scheme (2nd Company) I like the Orange and Yellow (or Gold, if you prefer) scheme, it looks... nice. Squad Markings are the same colour as the 2nd Company pad rim thingys. Can't decide weather to have the Boltguns Black or Dark Red. Opinions? I don't know why, but I prefer to have the whole body of a plasma pistol one colour, which is weird. Thinking about painting the Magnetic Accelerator Coils Red, but I'm not sure that's a thing that's canon in 40k. C&C welcome as always. I'll get those HQ models photographed soon, promise. carnosaur93
go black casings and keep the plasma blue, your sheme is very mono-colored and you need the contrast, and for orange/yellows blue and black would be perfect Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286854-blazing-suns-a-very-irregular-blog/#findComment-3597188 Share on other sites
Ch@oZ
I'd go for brick red or white/steel for the bolters and dark blue or green for plasma. If You're not sure google "complimentary colors", there's going to be an online color scheme desiger, or there is an adobe program which helps match things like this. Lenios
Thanks for the tips guys, they're greatly appreciated. This thread's not dead, promise. I just haven't had much spare time as of late. Still need to photograph those HQ units, then it'll go quiet here again for a while. Edit: Here's one now. HQ UNITS http://i58.tinypic.com/3522a1i.jpg Jump pack Captain/Assault Sergeant/Veteran. (Still haven't cleaned the window...) He's built mainly from assault squad parts; I purchased an assault squad back when I was an over-excited 9 year-old, and butchered all but one mini. I found this guy's Torso and legs intact and was quite surprised that he wasn't in too bad a condition. The addition of the metal Thunder Hammer is odd because I never usually use metal parts; the story behind him ending up with it was that the Assault Squad box used to have a sergeant with a thunder hammer shown on the back, I sent a very angry email to GW, who sent me a box of 5 metal thunder hammers and shoulder pads (also shown here). I am the reason there are no Thunder Hammer wielding marines on the Assault Squad box, and I am proud of that fact. Techmarine soon, and hopefully I'll get some paint on these guys as well. As usual, C&C welcome. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286854-blazing-suns-a-very-irregular-blog/#findComment-3651227 Share on other sites
