War Beast
I don't think the apothecary can have anything other than his stock equipment; same with the company champion. Varyn
Something which is worth remembering, if you're considering using all special weapons on sternguard, is that you essentially lose the sternguard special ammo rule, which you're paying for in their points cost. Of course if you have a strict plan to drop pod in and destroy only vehicles with melta guns then it's less of an issue, combi weapons are worth thinking about if you want more flexibility as others have already mentioned. Once you've taken out your primary targets you're free to disrupt the back line, and bolters with special ammo are grest for that. Melta wins out AV12+. If your just looking at causing a hull point yes but the melta has a much better chance to explode the vehicle. Azash
Heh....melta vs plasma and las cannon vs assault cannon its funny but its the same debate. Ultimately it comes down to play style and priority. Some players are happy to unload most of there shooting at a single target to insure it goes down in a single round. This is not better or worse as it has its own unique advantages and disadvantages. The underlying concept is it is risk averse tactics. You shield yourself from a single bad roll on the pen chart. Other players are happy to use one or two shots at multiple targets and insure they get at least one of them but have a chance at getting them all. Again it has its advantages and disadvantages but it is a more risk prone tactic. A few bad rolls and you get nothing a few good rolls and you devistate an opponent. As I said it really depends on the player as to which one is better.
