icon4.gif History
The Purgatis Crusade began from a small scout mission to a fringe world. There were rumors that an ancient temple to the emperor was found, one of the original speech halls from his early years. A small group of initiates, lead by Chaplain Halifax and Sword Brother Wilhelm. Upon discovery of the ancient temple, it quickly became clear that the natives of the planet were only posing as loyalists whilst they contacted and summoned a horde of chaos Daemons. The small strike force was greatly outnumbered, but held their position in the ancient temple. When the rest of the crusade was finally able to make planetfall, the massive horde of chaos daemons were slayed, and the only two marines left with 50% of their bodies in tact were Chaplain Halifax and Brother Wilhelm. The temple was unscathed. To reward their duties both were interred in to a suit of dreadnought armor. They made it their personal mission to set out on a crusade to erect a temple of the emperor on every planet they save from chaos. Hundreds of years of crusading have granted them the status of venerable, and the High Marshall put the newest Castellan in their safe-keeping, Castellan Lerrick. Lerrick was well known for his crusade of hunting Imperials who have turned traitorous, allied with xenos or used an excess amount of psykers. He has enlisted a small, elite force known as the Black Angels. The Black Angels specialize in killing imperial amies. They wear masks of the emperor and black wings to symbolize the holiness and righteousness of their mission. Halifax and Wilhelm hold great importance in killing those that sully the name of the Emperor, so they are big proponents of the use of the Black Angels.

Marshal Lerrick

Lerrick rose quickly though the ranks of the Black Templar with his rage and hatred of the enemy. He was born on a massive manufactorum planet and worked in a factory during his youth. Upon recruitment in to the Templars, he earned notoriety as a scout by bringing down an Ork nob in hand-to-hand combat. But he was shown great promise when he was put in charge of an assault squad. He called his personal team, the Black Angels after they way they descended from the heavens to deliver the Emperor's Holy message: Death to the Enemy. Lerrick and his Black Angels became known throughout the Imperium of Man and struck fear on many planets. But it was their slaying of an Imperial Fist strikeforce that earned them the excomunicorum from the Administratum. Lerrick and the Black Angels could tell that this group of Imperial Fists were beginning to turn to chaos, but never filed an official report, or told anyone. They saw chaos, and they struck. This got back to the adminstratum and to the Imperial Fists chapters. So the Black Angels have been branded as traitors by some. But they have proven themselves more often than not, and the High Marshal trusts them completely. When you need an Imperial killed, you call in the Black Angels. Now that Lerrick has his own Crusade, named Purgatis for purging the Imperium of traitors, he will make sure that everyone knows and fears the Black Angels.

So I think it is still obvious that this army still has a lot of work to go. I still have a bunch of unpainted models as well. I figured I would start here by showing my progress so far, and I would continue to update this as my painting comes a long. Here are a couple more shots of some of the details.

So far though My army has been doing well at my local gaming club. I've played 4 games with them so far. two at 1500 points and two at 2000 points. I won both the 1500 point games, taking my very first game as a win by defeating a Soul Drinkers force. He played them using the Imperial Fist Chapter Tactics. My second game was against Necrons, and I took the win there as well, and almost wiped him off the board. My third game, at 2000 points, went quite differently. Tyranids wiped the board with me. But, due to a relic game and some good strategy, the final score would have been 4-2. We called the game early because it was taking forever, but when we called it, the game board showed a score of 1-2 in my favor. My most recent game was yesterday, where I took down an Imperial Guard Armor faction. The guy had 6 Leman Russ tanks, 4 Chimeras and his HQ was a Leman Russ. I won because I was able to run my crusaders to the objectives, My Hammernators destroyed his warlord, and my HQ and honor guard ran through his tanks and contested his backfield objective.

So the Purgatis Crusade successfully defended another stronghold of the emperor. Although suffering great casualties, They held out and prevented the unclean Xeno Eldar army from maintaing their stronghold.

I played a 2000 point game today, and my Black Angels (Sanguinary Guard and Dante) made their first appearance. My BT against an eldar force, the mission was the scouring. I won 5-4 but the only models I had on the board at the end of turn 6 was my chapter master and one sanguinary guard. So I was almost tabled, but held out enough to hold an objective and prevent losing a slay the warlord. Great Sacrifices were made, but Marshal Lerrick proved his strategic brilliance in the end and drove of the Eldar force.

So anyway, my Black Angels (Sanguinary Guard) are primed grey and I am considering what paint scheme to use. I wish there was an army painter that had some wings I could toy with. Anyway, I was looking around online for some ideas and was thinking of going with an Angels Encarmine look. White Armor with Black Wings. What do you guys think? Should I just go all black?

Here are some styles I found

The Purgatis Crusade took home another win today! This time at 1000 points. This win was a lot more defined, and the only unit I lost was the Venerable Sir Wilhelm. This Crusade was smaller, and so Marshal Lerrick did not make an appearance. Instead he sent Chaplain Beowyn to lead the battle and and uproot a Tau stronghold. The Tau had setup a fortress to scout out a planet before bringing them under the "greater good." Their stronghold (a fortress of redemption) proved too weak to prevent the Black Tempalr force from destroying them.

The Venerable Sir Wilhelm destroyed their Hammerhead with Longstrike in it and then moved on to blow up the Emplacement Lascannon on the Fortress. One of my smaller squads was able to place a well-aimed lascannon shot at the front balcony area and scored a detonation, killing most of the units nearby. My smaller squads spread out to hold the communication array objectives which cut off the tau calls for reinforcements to the planet. In the end, the only unit to succumb to the tau fire was Sir Wilhelm for his journey behind enemy lines. He was recovered and is being repaired by the chapter tech-priests as we speak.

This battle was too small for the Black Angels to make an appearance, but Sir Wilhelm made his presence known, and the chaplain was able to lead a crusader squad into some fire warriors and got 3 kills to his name.

I am digging all the smitin' you have going on.:) Keep it up, there is way too much  trash in the galaxy.

Regarding which scheme to go with, I liked them all, but the black armor looks much more like Templars and so would recommend that scheme. That's not to say that Wilhelm couldn't wear bronze or white to help him stand out in the squad.

Onwards Brother!

Campaign Update.

The Purgatis Crusade deployed for the first game of the planet strike campaign at my local store. The Campaign is split in to 3 factions, imperial, chaos, and xenos. My force was one of the Imperial forces that did not start with any territory, but would instead have to take my territory by force through planet strike. Which I was fine with since the BT are a fleet based chapter, and what's the point of holding a planet if you aren't going there to slay the enemy.

So each person gets 5 1000 pt lists. Additionally, you can have one Independent character as your supreme warlord for the force as a whole. Their points dont count toward the 1000 points and he can be added to any battle. So I of course made Marshal Lerrick my supreme warlord, kitting him out to be a grand total of 260 pts. In this first game, I went up against a Necron player who already had one game to his belt, so he had earned 180 points which he used to bolster his defense. So he was using 1180 points and I was using 1000. Of course we both had our supreme warlords in the fight.

Game 1

Opponent: Necrons

Mission: Implacable Advance

++Operation: Purgo Xenos++

++Planet Melor++

++Making Planet Strike++

The game went 6 turns, and I was outnumbered the entire way. I used a lot of BLOS tactics to move my surviving crusaders around and made his vehicles my target priority. In the end I took out a command barge, an annihilation barge, the big spider walker thing, and the long vehicle with the big blast weapon. And he in turn took out my two dreads, Halifax and Wilhelm, and whiddled my crusader squads down to all one initiate each. But, making use of our Crusader chapter tactic I was able to run in and contest two of the objectives and hold one of my own. The victory conditions for this map are, "the one who holds the most objectives win" So I took the victory, despite only having 5 models left alive, 4 of which were basic initiates. the 5th? Marshal Lerrick of course.

For bonus points I also had first blood and linebreaker, while the necron opponent was unable to kill my warlord or keep any units in my deployment zone. And honestly, if the game went on to a turn 6, I would have lost, because to contest one objective, I had to run a solo initiate right next to his full size necron court. I was still able to be one inch away from the unit, but within 3 inches of the objective.

Either way, I now have a planet to control and am looking to begin taking over some Eldar territory!

And people scoffed at me for saying our Chapter Tactics were not terrible.  ;)

Update!

I I am back on the website after not playing for awhile and then getting back in to the game and painting and playing some more. The Purgatis Crusade has grown in numbers and taking down many more enemies of man since last I posted.

Most recently the Purgatis Crusade was at the forefront of a 25,000 point game of Imperials vs. Chaos/Xenos

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b71/Icculus72/IMG_00261.jpg

Here is one of my Dreadnoughts that slowed the advance by holding combat for 3 turns! Sir Wilhelm in his element. He killed 10 Chaos Marines and 5 Chaos Havocs.

Crusade Update!

I added a full army shot to the first post. But also wanted to show some of more painted Stormtalons and the HQ squad. Also wanted to report that since the new codex drop, the Purgatis Crusade has seen increased potency.

Most recently we were able to put down a Dark Angels detachment over a dispute of the Ophidian Gulf incident. And before that the Purgatis Crusade was able to fend off a Necron onslaught with the help of Inquisitor Karamazov and the Confessors.
