Started painting the Wolf Lord (Army Commander).

Tried something new with the gold as well as the grey

I like the "new gold" better than my old gold but it might just be me :)

C&C is always welcome and thanks for taking a look.

  • 4 weeks later...

So it's been a week of trying new things :) . Tried using an airbrush to mixed results and today decided to join the March of Legions, as well as making a "true scale" marine with the new termie legs.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks LoL

Lots of work to go as it's just day 1, but any input is always welcome.

Always glad to have more folks in on the Legion challenge :D

That prospective Word Bearer is looking crazy fluffy. Your fire sculpting is something to be envied!

Flint - thanks I watched a few tuts on youtube for making fire and tried it myself.

So I'm deciding to use the extra droppods I have and I want something that looks older for my Wolves. I mostly wanted something with a larger footprint as I wanted something "beefy" rather than the "slimmer" Marine droppod as it come in the box. Looked around on the net and found these and modified it for my needs. Not really a Dreadclaw and not a droppad, but something in the middle. Which is what I see my Wolves having. Early era equipment and prototypes.

Does the idea I'm trying to convey come across or does it just look like the servitors went of the grid when they assembled mt pod?

So I'm working on my March of Legion entry and I'm not sure if the grey is dark enough.

I'm hoping to get some advice/input on whether it's the right shade or not before I mess with it.

Wow ... I've never been happy with the look of drop pods for my wolves but this works for me much better!

May have to borrow the idea. How difficult was it to convert up?

SW1 - They just look more "wolfy" don't they :) As far as the conversion itself it's just two small cuts on each "fin" of the drop pod up where they touch the engine. You can find a lot of conversions online or I can try to make a quick guide to how I did it if you like. I made less cuts than the ones online and my doors don't open (I wanted the internals for something else), but I'm going to make a couple more in a few days so I'll let you know if I make one with working doors. All the online conversions are for Dreadclaws so the doors are glued shut.

Revamping the concept of my army. Like many I can't decide which Legion to stick with. I've been thinking about replacing the Night Lord side of my army with Blood Angels.

Test piece
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Mobile%20Uploads/8949885D-3137-4868-82BD-B687D3DF11A9_zpscjxlblim.jpg

Problem is they still will not be scoring units. I can replace the NL with Imperial Fists and they will be scoring units (working on a test piece now).

I haven't played since 2nd edition but I will be learning they game once I get an army built. How big of a deal is the "non-scoring" aspect if I am using 2-3 assault squads and maybe a Termie squad.

Any help or advice would be great. Especially regarding the army build (I anticipate an infantry heavy force if that matters).

Hmmm ... I could use the internals for my scenery project. :D

Like the BA, looks cool which is about as far as I've got with recent editions of the game. So can't offer any advice on playing them. However rule of cool works well for me. ;)

Ugh, your blood angles are pretty... But fluff tells us there is no happy ending with the VIII and IX in close proximity :D

I really like your work on his unhelmed head. Looks awesome, especially the newer flesh around his augmetics.

SW1 - it's all pretty vanilla in 30K :) (at least it seems so to my inexperienced eye) especially to those Legions without fluff from FW

Flint - Thanks, I watched a tutorial on glazes and I've been trying it on flesh. It's turning out pretty good for me so far.

Finished the test mini for the IF

I am keeping the Wolves no questions asked. I do however want to add a second color into the army. As it stands at the moment it is simply a paint project, but like I said I'd like to play eventually. Which ally would be taken more seriously (if that makes sense).

Started working on my Dreadnaught Talon for my Arena Challenge. I got the base models built just need to start making them "wolfy"

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/Mobile%20Uploads/110ABB3B-FEB6-4372-B974-A8C6E78298E0_zps0kysfivv.jpg

I figured it would be best to built them all at the same time that way I can do the GS work at the same time as well.

As always any C&C, tips or input is always welcome. Thanks for taking a look.

The Talon is underway. I have just been reading through your Plog

Hands down this is some of the best stuff I have seen on here The TS Space Wolf is great, is he grey with a blue glaze. Also how do you make the runes and wolf teeth??

The dude beside the NL praetor, the wolf priest I think, how did you do his Belt of Russ?

And finally, did those brushes really make such a difference to your painting??? It was a massive leap looking at those heads, but you were already really good anyway.

Technically on kit-bashes sculpts etc yo are head and shoulders above me, so I am looking forward to "learning" from you smile.png

Thanks 200Plus..

You are far too kind, Brother.

The Rune tokens and teeth are simply little pieces of GS. The teeth are rolled out really thin are cut into a desired length, then one side is rolled out thinner and the thick end hasa hole punched in it. The tokens are smalls "balls" of GS pressed flat with a Rune scored in them with a carved matchstick.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/P1010826.jpg

The belt on my Wolf Priest is a shoulder pad from the Dwarf Hammerer box in the Fantasy Range (afraid I can't take credit for making that gem smile.png )

Indeed, my brushes did make a serious difference. I was working with a "master set" from GW for about ten years and I loved them and thought they were the greatest thing ever. I went out and bought some actual "art brushes" and I saw an instant leap in my painting. It was a boon and an ambush however, as I "let my head loose" as they say. Now, I'm trying to airbrush and use chipping medium and oil washes and otherwise pretend I am an actual painter smile.png

Thanks for taking the time to look through my thread.

I look forward to learning from you as well. Especially those tribal designs that give your Wolves such a feral appeal.

EDIT - I'm not sure what "TS" Space Wolf is (slight brain damage so help me out). It's most likely just bad painting but I'd like to answer the question so please let me know which marine you were talking about or it will bother me all day LoL

Ah excellent, I should have about 30 of those suckers kicking around somewhere!!

I got them cheap on a bits site thinking they'd be good for making rune and decorative moulds but no such luck!!

One of the guys on the Space Wolves forum uses them as kneepads for his 40K terminators, so I am experimenting on my 30K guys.

I have milliput, but I might go back to greenstuff, milliput is fine, but it isnt capturing detail as sharply as the green stuff.

Looks like I will have to try my hand at these tokens smile.png

Oh and TS means true scale, I think sometimes called art scale. I was meaning many of your marines where you made your own extended legs or used terminator legs on space marine torso's. Giving them a more normal proportions.

Started working on the Dreads this morning. I should be able to wash them later this evening (hoping).

@dantay - I tried Vallejo blue grey wash on a few models but I wasn't happy with the results. Too "parade" if that makes sense. I'm starting to use a combination of brown and black oil paints to wash instead. They seem to give a dirtier more "feral" look that I prefer.

@Flint- thanks, it's good to be basing and the ruined concrete was something I took/modified from EDT.

I haven't forgotten the "Big Dogs" and tried a little more intricate work on this one

I'll be using them as bikers so the added bionics should help with my argument for having them in a 30K force LoL
