Calas978
Hey y'all, I'm new to all this but I wanted to get some outside input here. Legions have really picked up in my gaming group and I'm looking at diving in with Death Guard. Their Legion specific units are really catching my eye so I'd like to use them as often as I can, anyway here's what I'm looking at starting with. (All I have so far is Typhon) TyphonRoW:The Reaping200Deathshroud(5):Meltabombs235Centurion:Cataphractii,Power fist,Primus Medicae125Tactical Squad(15):Legion Vexilla,Add CCW,Rad Grenades,Power Maul,Artificer270Tactical Squad(15):Legion Vexilla,Add CCW,Rad Grenades,Power Maul,Artificer270Support Squad(5):Chem-munitions100Support Squad(5):Chem-munitions100Heavy Support Squad(5):Missile Launchers,Flakk210Stormeagle:Missile Launcher,TL-Lascannons,Armoured Ceremite275Grave Wardens(5):4xPower Fists,Chainfist,Heavy Flamer w/ Chem-munitionspts:215 Any thoughts or changes you'd make would be appreciated. infyrana
30 views and no replies yet, we must all be asleep Welcome to the boards and the HH (of which the latter I am still a new recruit of). Typhon is an excellent model and sings DG like a choir, I approve of your choice! Have you thought about transports for your walking terminators which are melee/short ranged respectively? It might require you to rework some of the units, dropping them altogether etc. The Power Mauls are an interesting choice, any reason? Perhaps add meltabombs upon your tactical sergeants for a bit of anti-armour if you aren't taking fists etc. Is this a 40k or 30k only list, ie flyer heavy environment, or pure marines and armour all across the board? Calas978
I was thinking about running Typhon, the Deathshroud and the Primus in the Storm Eagle to get them across the board quick, but I'm considering dropping it and a few Deathshroud for a Land Raider for them instead. It's mostly for use against 40k lists that have lots of flyers and flying MCs, I've been toying with the idea of dropping the Heavy Support Squad for a Mortis Contemptor or 2. I was thinking with the Power Mauls I could double out most Marine chracters when combined with rad grenades, that way I still get the possibility for Instant Death and more attacks at initiative even though they get their armour against it. I like the idea of putting Melta bombs on them for the anti-armour, I'll try to fit those in there (there's so many toys I want to throw in that I run out of points quick). MiR
If you play against 40k, then add at least 1 Mortis Contemptor with double Kheres, its awesome. The 2 Tactical Support Sq have no transport and will be killed, there an short ranged unit. Rhinos arent popular atm but i belive its the only way. I personal love Apothecarys for my Legion Squads. Calas978
I'd like to try to keep with a mostly infantry army to keep with the fluff of the Death Guard as best as I can, but you're right they do need something to help them get across the board and I love the idea of the Apothecaries. Typhon:n/a200Deathshroud(4):Meltabombs190Apothecarion Detachment(2):Artificer110Tactical Squad(15):Add CCW,Legion Vexilla,Rad Grenades,Artificer,Power Maul,Meltabombs275Tactical Squad(15):Add CCW,Legion Vexilla,Rad Grenades,Artificer,Power Maul,Meltabombs275Contemptor Mortis:2 TL-Kheres180Support Squad(5):Chem-munitions,Rhino135Support Squad(5):Chem-munitions,Rhino135Grave Wardens(5):Chainfist,heavy Flamer w/ Chem-munitions215Land Raider Phobos:Dozer Blade,Armoured Ceremite,Auxiliary Drive285 I figure with the Contemptor I can drop the Heavy Support Squad for anti-flyer and the Land Raider can replace the Storm Eagle for the Deathshroud. infyrana
Don't forget to add Augury Scanners for the Apothecaries. You could possibly ditch the Rad Grenades, depending on your use of them, in placement of the scanners. The Rhinos might not make it, but you can at least use them as cover. One of your termi squads is walking, but then that becomes a juggling that pushes your list in different ways to modify that. May I recommend trying to magnetise or make detachable the flamers on your support squads so that you can use them to buff your troops to 20-man tacticals and play around with options :) Keep us informed how it goes! Calas978
The rad grenades seem like they could be useful for clearing units off objectives, plus they add to the Death Guard feel of the army to me and I figure since the Grave Wardens are mostly a shooting unit they can walk without to much of a loss in effectiveness. I never thought about magnetizing the Support squad, I am definitely going to do that. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286940-death-guard-2000-point/#findComment-3597260 Share on other sites
MiR
Magnets on Support Troops are critical! Cant count on how often i switched guns on guys like that. When it comes to Magnets, also consider Contemptor and Power Weapons to magnetizing. Sanct
If you're taking the reaping RoW would you need the tactical support squads? You could take 4 heavy support squads with large numbers of heavy weapons and use grave warden/tactical squads to march on the enemy. If you do that then query why the landraider, mortis, the deathshroud and typhon. You could take more grave wardens, a regular praetor and more heavy support squad guys. Calas978
Dropping the Supports for more heavy support squads would probably work better, I would like to make use of chem-munitions but i can do that with a heavy flamer squad too, and with more heavy support squads I could drop the Mortis since they can deal with anti air. I'd like to keep the Deathshroud and Typhon mostly because I love the models and I'd hate to get them and not use them, the Raider is just there to get them across the board. Think it'd be worth dropping the land raider for more grave wardens and walking them all across the board? Calas978
So I've tried this list out recently and found a sever lack of anti-tank, so I've done some reworking and this is what I'm looking at getting. I've mostly had to contend with Tyranids, Eldar and Dark Eldar. infyrana
How did you get on with the Lascannon heavy squad ? I would probably have chosen other options for this task, they look very expensive for the low body count. Your tactical squads are 9 points different from each other, mistype I hope :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286940-death-guard-2000-point/#findComment-3605114 Share on other sites
Calas978
Yeah, accidentally hit a 9 instead of a 0 I'm still on the edge between the lascannons and a team of missiles with flakk. The points difference would let me throw artificer armour on the tactical sergeants. Just worried about throwing enough high strength fire down range to stop the multiple Spartans I know I'll see eventually.
