How will the new Imperial Knights affect you?

So with the Imperial Knight Titans hitting store shelves early in March and with many of the rules and information already well circulated I feel it's time to ask the question, how will this new Codex and ally choice affect the Space Wolves? Both as enemies to face and potential allies.

Obviously one important thing will be a preponderance of D strength weapons. From what I've seen the melee weapon on the Knights will be strength D, now previously only things like Shadowswords main weapon, Stompa and Lord of Skulls melee weapons possessed the rare and powerful strength D, now there's the potential of seeing a number of these riding around threatening to put the squash onto anything they can get into striking range of. As much cheaper individual platforms for strength D weapons there's the potential we could see a lot more of these than are already present with escalation rules.

Now apparently strength D is relatively banned from tournaments such as Adepticon, I don't know very much about it as I don't circulate in the tournament scene but that could have an affect on how well these see use in competitive play, so potentially tournaments won't be affected but there's still the potential of running into a group of these new kits in pick up games or as regular opponents. Will this result in changes to tactics or army composition? Is anyone thinking of running more mechanized or as drop pods to counter the Knights or is infantry heavy with lots of las and melta the way to go?

What do you guys think? How will this new friend/foe change the way you play or run your army? Is anyone thinking of taking a few of these along as allies and if so, how do you think the Knights will best work with the Space Wolf list? Are knights even worth taking over alternative allies like Guard?

Aye id like to see the full rules before deciding how best they could fit in. Although something striding around with a rapid fire battle cannon and D strength chainsword is obviously going to be nasty.

Most likely itll be a while before i get one, but liking the look of the models...and gives options to make your own 'house' i suppose (starks anyone?? plenty of wolf heraldry haha)

from a fluff perspective...how does it work with space wolves and knight houses? The last time i read up anything about the knights was in the grand ol days of epic. Will be interesting to see the new fluff they put out with them.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet a short breakdown of some of the rules rumors can be found here: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2014/02/breaking-imperial-knights-rules-rumors.html

That said while the Chainswords are apparently D weapons I would not be surprised if we see Knights as long-range sniper units. With the directional shield and the long range, 2 shot cannon, I could see a Knight or two as allies kept back in a corner lobbing shells at the enemy, while that might waste the melee weapon it would be a tough nut to crack and make for a decent artillery-esque platform.

Fortunately Wolf Scouts using OBEL with meltagun/melta bombs should help reduce such a threat to wreck but if caught without mobility I can see those ap 3 large blasts being a nightmare for our infantry to deal with at range.

I'll also probably wait a while to get one, not least because I have other projects demanding my time and money but eventually I see myself getting two or three to bring in alongside my wolves.

As for fluff wise I haven't seen them in fluff much since the resent Horus Heresy book Mechanicum. However the Knight Houses are similar organizations to the Titan Legios, in essence allies to the Mechanicus and through them the Imperium but relatively independent. Just like the Titan Legions it is entirely possible that any given chapter, including the Space Wolves, will have built up close relations, mutual respect, and perhaps even alliances and oaths of mutual support between the chapter and one or more Knight Houses, in the same way as a chapter may retain close links to Rogue Trader Dynasties, Astropath Houses, Titan Legions and other Chapters as well.

P.S. Is it bad I threw up in my mouth a little when you mentioned the Starks?

haha not at all! But i bet some will do this! (ive already seen mention elsewhere of GoT related houses).

anywhoo...rules wise.

Id probably actually go for the melta option over the battlecannon snipey option.

Reason? The melta is still large blast, sure it has a shorter range, but its still 36" (which after a 12" move is gonna still be good). You are also going to end up more aggressive, and more likely be in charge range of something (shoot the heavy stubber at the target you want to charge/a nearer target to ensure charges). For me having them sit at the back of the board sniping...you may as well take a couple allied leman russ/artillery pieces for this...theyre cheaper and can shoot different things. The knight for me needs to be threatening to use that D strenght chainsword...otherwise its a waste of points imo.

wil be interesting to see if there are any further weapon variants though (lances please!!)

Um, YEAH!! The Night Wolves will be stalking their prey with a house of these beautiful models for certain!! I will also be looking to ally some with my Night Lords, if that's possible, and also a topic for another forum!! ;)

I first caught onto 40K as a youngster while visiting my aunt and uncle in England. I was 14. The Epic game had recently been released and I vividly remember drooling over these 'huge robots' and thinking that I would love to play that game!! Sadly, I never got to... So to see these walkers brought to life in the game, and my adult pocketbook able to afford such things (yeah right, who am I kidding...), I am ecstatic to be able to play with them!!

Even if I cannot ally them to any of the armies I already play, then it looks like daddy's got a new force to be reckoned with!!

End of Line

This is one of the few times I might actually buy the Dex to see what's what. The model looks awesome, the whole concept rocks but I want to see the actual end product. With rumours of Forge World kits to go with this in the works, I know at least 2 guys in my gaming group will jump on the band wagon for these. I even considered wolfing one up for my own Great Company but before I lay out that much money, I need to know what options are etc.. As for dealing with them, I can see TWC Cav staying on in my lists with the addition of MB's for them. And LF's for covering fire while they charge in.

I just like the idea of TWC romping and playing around the feet of one of these warmachines!! It's such a cute picture in my head. One covered in the blood of the heretical xenos scum screaming as the are crushed under tons of piston fueled metal. Then the thunderwolves pee on them.

End of Line

This the most I've been excited by a model release in quite sometime. I will have to get 2-3 to aid my imperial armies and to my home grown campaign fluff.

Interesting. I can just picture my thunderwolves humping those Imperial Knight legs. You might want to consider sharing your home grown campaign fluff to the Fang. Maybe we can do a Fang-wide campaign with you? LOL

In regards to fluff not sure, however there is a titan legion that seems like they would be closely allied with the wolves http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Legio_Sirius#.UxELPfl_te8

Personally when i get my knight I'm just going with the fact that Sirius and the wolves were allied during the heresy and thats carried on etc, ofc there is no fluff to say Sirius existed during the heresy but shush lol

Just got a sneak peak at the sprues for the Knights. VERY NICE. I still think the kit is overpriced but at least GW is making a half decent attempt at making it somewhat worth the money. I can't believe I'm actually considering getting one of these things. Am I the only one who thought " SUPER BJORN" when they first saw this thing? Then I thought mini Titan. Both really cool but... LOL!!! I just hope they give a few more options for these things then what we are seeing so far. Preordered the Dex so I can look at things before I finally breakdown & buy one of these things. Already thinking of ways to wolf the bloody thing up plus some plausible fluff. A Freeblade who owes the Wolves a debt so he follows them around & gets stuck in. They both follow a code of honour in their own ways. Trying to come up with a way to change the chainsword to a chain axe. Oh well. I'll figure something out.

Maybe try the Chainaxe from the Lord of Skulls?

LOL!! Thanks Vash113. I was just finishing looking at the White Dwarf that just come out. THey have a battle in it of 5 Knights & some Dress wearers fighting a band of Chaos Marines supported by 2....Lord of Skulls. In the picture, the axe looks to be about the right size, especially if I cut in half to make myself a 2 headed axe. Then I noticed the Lord of Skulls fist holding the axe is about proportional to the Knight gave me the idea of Knight size lightning claw for Super Bjorn. Heresey I know but I play a Lost Company so.... Gotta see of Hoard of Bits or somebody carries those bits.

It affects me in two ways, on the other side of the table it spawns the undeniable desire in me to unleash my Lone wolves or else at it, that's one.

As a model I'm still undecided until I've seen it in the flesh, potentially super cool, loving the HH backstory on Taranis.

But it looks like an awful trend developing in 40k, for all those who don't own Apoc armies already or like those good games around 2k each without any too big stuff. As a release for Apoc ok, but this leaves me with an un-good feeling which is the second.
