G. A. K.
I for one don't like being told I have to gear up to fight titans in regular games, period. I liked Apoc when it was first released, I bought the book and played a few games. However I never got used to fighting the huge 'things' be they baneblades, titans or tyranid monstrosities. I liked keeping it smaller scale. I thought the riptide and wraithknight pissed me off until I saw Lords of War. Now there is a whole army of this crap? #%@&! I don't mean to complain, I think these models are beautiful but their rules are broken beyond belief IMHO. As many other wolf players have noticed, it looks like I would need to kill it in CC. of course if I do kill it. I unleash a D strength explosion, bye bye whatever killed it, even a thunder-bear lord. No save, no nothing. Meaning the only thing that could survive a fight with one is another knight, great. :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286964-how-will-the-new-imperial-knights-affect-you/page/2/#findComment-3607707 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I am absolutely wolfing up my Knight!! He may be a freeblade, but after working under the watchful eye of Logan Grimnar his allegiance to the wolves of Fenris has become just as strong as it is for the knighthood. Once I get him assembled and converted up, I'll post pics. I've seen some shots online already of SW knights, but nothing converted just painted in our standard colors. Rune Priest Jbickb
I like the model and if I get some spare cash I might buy one. My current thinking is to paint it with its own colors and heraldry but then give it a wolf pelt that was a mark of honor for aiding the wolves in battle. If you use the app / site / thing, search 'Imperial Knights' and there are 2 examples up, plus lots of other cool looking titans!! @jbickb Im going to do the same except paint most of not all of it's hull the same color as my army. Slap on a storm shield or two, some dangly wolf tails, and BAM!! I wonder if I could convert a fen wolf to be in the process of pissing on it. Like it's marking it's territory... Lord Ragnarok
I have to see the fluff in the codex, and maybe the companion, but I think I want to run my knights as free blades. Each one having had visions or oaths which have brought them to aid the wolves and other imperial forces trying to stop the Dark Sacrifice of Siris prime. As a model I'm still undecided until I've seen it in the flesh, potentially super cool, loving the HH backstory on Taranis. But it looks like an awful trend developing in 40k, for all those who don't own Apoc armies already or like those good games around 2k each without any too big stuff. As a release for Apoc ok, but this leaves me with an un-good feeling which is the second. Jarl Deathwolf, and Brother Bulweih, 6e has become the "Anything goes" edition of 40k. I still haven't been able to adjust. End of Line I think a Thunderwolf pelt would be fitting for a Wolf Knight. You'd have to find the right scale for it (maybe a 54mm statue of Conan the Barbarian, or some Germanic warrior). I do really like the new knight models, looks amazing. Price tag looks horrible, however, so I am likely not purchasing it. But, I can definitely see freeblades joining up with the Space Wolves. Something strikes me that of all the Chapters willing to hire a diverse group of honorable mercenaries who can hold their liquor, it would be the Space Wolves. Just imagine a feasting hall or tavern in the Fang somewhere near the docking bays. You might see a freeblade knight from some distant planet, drinking with a pack of Armageddon-ian ex-Steel Legionnaire Guardsmen turned mercenaries hired by the Wolves to protect the House Belisarius emissaries from Terra sitting five tables down from them, next to the table where an Iron Priest is conferencing with two Martian Mechanicus enginseers, guarded by Iron Bretherens from Fenris. Waited by Fenrisian wenches descended from Space Wolf serf families. skeletoro
why kill it in cc? Even with the 4+ shield, i think anti-tank firepower would be the way to go. Get a fire raptor or some land speeders behind it and shoot at its rear armour. If it opts for rear shields, then concentrate all your long fangs etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286964-how-will-the-new-imperial-knights-affect-you/page/2/#findComment-3610038 Share on other sites
Vash113
Exactly, especially since that apocalyptic explosion resulting from it's destruction is indiscriminate, as liable to hurt your opponent as it is you. If your opponent keeps even a few units near the Knight or if you manage to drop it before it can move ahead of the rest of your opponent's forces then there's the potential to take out a large chunk of the enemy force with a single blast. Rift Blade
I want one but I gotta see the codex before I put out that much cash(so much for my tax return this year--LOL!). If the codex does not give some more options, I think I can convince myself to hold off for at least a little while. My only gripes are the price(go figure) & the appearent lack of options. I don't want them to be overpowered(at least not anymore then they are) but just 2 weapon options for 350+ pts each? Seriously? Oh well. Perhaps it's for the best. I've seen the Codex already and no there are no additional options (not surprising with no relevant models or weapons). I've heard rumors of additional variant kits, conversion kits and a chaos variant but I would expect those to be later releases in 2-6 months or from Forge World. wulfgar hammerfist
If you are planning to use a Knight in your SW list, what kind of list are you looking to build? I am tinkering with adding a paladin to the list to provide long range battle cannon shots to the cover the advance of rhino borne grey hunters. I thought about drop pods but then the fear of scattering into my own troops worries me a bit. Rift Blade
All right. After picking up the codex & reading it, I get the sense that there will be additions down the line so I'm going to hold off on this. That being said, appearently 3 guys in our gaming group have picked one up so I'm sure I'll be fighting one soon. As for a list with one it, I probably would not put one in a list in anything under 1500 pts.. After that, 3-4 packs of GH's, 1 LF pack, a RP, 3 or TWC & round out the pts depending on what your playing with. My 2 cents anyways. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
For a fun list, which is all I play, I'll be running Logan 4 5 man TDAWG packs in pods, 2 6 man LF missile packs, Canis and 45 Fen Wolves along side a TWL and 4 TWC. Should be between 2000-2500. It's going to look AMAZING on the table!! OOOOOOH YEAH!! I'm picking up the codex tomorrow, so I'll have a better idea of what the exact points total and therefor kind of list I end up with. MaveriK
The idea of a house allied to the Wolves from the Wolf Kingdom around the Fenris sector sounds intriguing. However I can also see Egil Iron Wolf and his great company or any Wolf Lord for that matter "taking" one as a loot after a battle. Later giving it to the Iron Priest or Kaerls for a new toy to play with... Anyway I'm looking forward to what people come up with and seeing future wip/pip works posted up here inside the Fang. Fytharin
Personally, I've been a little uneasy with how under 2000 point armies have been trending starting mostly with fliers but now with the advent of escalation and now this??? I'm just kind of shaking my head wondering how many more codex/rulebooks I'm going to need to buy just to play a normal game and understand what the heck my opponent is fielding. For starters the codex is $50 for count them, four pages of rules, the rest are pictures and lore. Would it be fun for me to field one of these? Not really...because I don't want to have the giant super baddie that roflstomps my opponent it just takes the fun out of what I feel seperates 40k from other miniature war games which is having the giant army with dozens of miniatures. If I was playing an apoc. game? Then absolutely because then I know my opponent has been at the game for a while and it's in apoc where I feel these kind of miniatures truly belong....not in smaller games. I guess if I have to deal with someone fielding it then I'll be talking melta bombs and meltas. I have enough long range firepower in my list to keep the rest of their army at bay while I either drop pod my meltas in behind it or rush my TWC in seeing as how I normally run a pack of 3TWC+1WL. Which I normally equip with melta bombs anyways so not really a big change on my roster. Vash113
Well the rules are also in White Dwarf Weekly issue 4 I believe. That's $4 and most GWs should still have a few copies left, all you need do is ask for them to look. Also again I sincerely doubt we will see a ton of these things at under 2000 points, or very many entire armies of them. The cost is simply too prohibitive for many gamers, I know I don't have the funds to go out and buy the 5 knight box right now, certainly not in addition to my other projects. 1 or 2 eventually... yea, but even then they will likely only come out in larger games. Generally if I'm fighting a game over 2000 points I use the Apoc rules anyway and roll out whatever just for fun. Yes it is irksome to keep up with all the rules but I do not find it completely necessary. Stronghold Assault, Escalation, Apocalypse, Planetstrike, Cities of Death, all of these things added additional ways to play, more options and more freedom and I see that as a very good thing, sure there are downsides but so what, if you don't like it, don't use it and don't play people who do, it's just that simple. I've seen people request their opponent refrain from using flyers because they have none, request opponents not use Wraithknights, Riptides or any super-heavies for similar reasons and for the most part their opponents have agreed, after all the point of the game is to have fun. Sure some people won't agree to that but then the answer is simply not to play them. Options are good, you can always choose not to use an option you have available but it's a lot harder to create new options when none currently exist. I say revel in the evolving nature of the game, the greater freedom of army building, allies and game types! Downside is a big explosion on your side of the board could be bad... and it's really tempting to throw a Knight at the enemy with the expectation it will get blown up and revel in the vast destruction that apocalyptic blast causes!
