Ultramarine vet
So I want to start collecting and painting Howling Griffons veterans. I don't really know how to go about painting their shoulder trim and helmets. I do believe they are a codex chapter, but I'm not 100% sure. So I am wondering, do I paint their shoulder trim and helmets white? Or not? Just want to clear this up and get it done right! Brother Tyler
According to Insignium Astartes, the Howling Griffons don't indicate company affiliation. All of the Howling Griffons shown in the Badab War book have company numbers on either the right shoulder pad or one of their kneepads, however. Curiously, the Badab War book shows the majority of Howling Griffons battle-brothers with shoulder pad rims colored, though all but one have white/silver while they are in the 2nd and 4th companies (so the shoulder pad rim color doesn't appear to indicate company affiliation in this case). The one battle-brother in power armour that doesn't have white/silver shoulder pad rims is Veteran Sergeant Otho, whose shoulder pad rims are yellow/gold (and he bears the number "2" upon his left kneepad, probably indicating that he is in the 2nd Company). This is the only instance where the shoulder pad rim might indicate company affiliation. With the Insignium Astartes provision for commanders to vary their markings and with Otho's example above, you could use shoulder pad colors to indicate company affiliation if you desire (though most players don't do this). As for helmets, one of the Veteran Sergeants in the Badab War book has a white helmet while the other does not. Also, the lone Howling Griffons Terminator shown in the book does not have a white helmet. So if you want to give your veterans white helmets or white decorations upon their helmets, feel free. It's not obligatory, though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287057-howling-griffons-veteran-color-scheme/#findComment-3598717 Share on other sites

Bronze Beast in the Dark
Veteran Sergeant Otho in the IA 9 book also has a yellow helmet. Ultramarine vet
Huh. That's strange. Is there a reason he has a yellow helmet? Bronze Beast in the Dark
I am assuming that it is because he is a veteran. If I remember correctly, the only Griffons with white helmets are in night world cammo.
