Planning to start world eaters, 30k/40k compatible list

Hey guys,

 

I got my self an Angron model, so I'll be fielding them as traitors. I'm trying to make a list that is compatible with the 40k Chaos marines codex. I'll be using the WE ROW, so no drop pods or deep strike, will be relying on numbers to get me across the board. I will be purchasing Karn and they will be late heresy, with red replacing the white.

 

At the moment I'm struggling with anti armor and anti air.

I would appreciate the help of more experienced folk in the planing of this force. I'd like the 30k version to be competitive ish, not to fussed about the 4th version. I would like most of the models to be transferable between codex.

 

The basis of the army is max assault squad, max tactical X2. I'd love to get some breachers in there but don't see what I could do with them in 4th, I'd love some suggestions in that regard!

I'm thinking heavy support with missile launchers and flack. Or two groups of melta support squads in rhinos and ignore fliers? Pretty sure that with my only vehicle's being rhinos they won't last longer than the first round.

2 land raiders and a rampager squad?

I started out thinking about making my Word Bearers 40k compatible but was planning to use the standard Space Marine codex rather than the Chaos Space Marine codex.

 

Biggest problems are sergeant and special/heavy weapon loadout. 30k tacticals have no special/heavy weapons and the sergeant typically has artificer armour and either a power fist or a power axe & melta bombs. I think in 40k, you really need the special weapons and the sergeant really just needs a combi-weapon that fits with the special weapon loadout for his unit. Also the ratio of sergeants to marines is quite different. In 30k it's typically 1:15 or 1:20, but with 40k it's 1:7 (assuming two special/heavy weapons), so you need more of them. So as well as tactical squads in 30k, you also need some support squads to help build out proper 40k tactical squads and this adds to the models you need to buy.

 

Another problem is terminator loadout which is so different for codex marines (though thankfully fairly similar if you want to take the chaos marine route), that the two can be incompatible unless you're very careful with what you equip them with and don't mind running unoptimised lists. Remember no storm shields in 30k.

 

There's also annoying little differences, such as rapier crew just having a bolt pistol in 30k, but having a bolter in 40k.

 

Since most of the big stuff such as Spartans, Sicarans, etc also have 40k rules, these should all be OK provided your opponent doesn't mind Forge World rules.

 

Without buying a lot of extra models just for your 40k list I don't think it's possible to build a competitive 40k list from a 30k army, but if you just want something that's fun and/or fluffy you should be fine.

I'm going to go with the Chaos Marines codex. So should be able to run butchers out of a land raider essentially with the same load out as chaos terminators. Karn in the other with some berserker friends. Some Raptors and large squad of berserkers.

 

Will only need to add a couple of melta guns on the raptors.

 

I'm just not sure about the cost of the land raider vs the cost of the spartan it seems like a small difference for the advantages you get, more than double the transport capacity and double the shots with Las cannons. Does anyone know if you can get dirge casters for Spartans?
