The Angel and the Warmaster, How was their relationship?

As the title says. I think they may have been friends as close as Fulgim and Manus, but i can not find my source. Any info from you gents would be most appreciated.

They were close to each other. You can read about this in Fear to Tread and Horus Rising.

there is a line in one of the books that says something like 'but none were closer than Horus and the Angel' I can't remember which it's in... don't think I imagined it though... BL really seem to be playing up the idea that some of Horus' closest siblings are the ones that do not side with him, and they focus a fair bit on how close Horus and the Angel are, presumably because it'll make the final showdown better (I hope!)

I think its stated that they all respected and most liked horus. But the angel and warmaster were meant to be especially close...

Considering that Sanguinius shares information of the flaw with horus, and that Horus agrees to never tell their father (whom at that time, he was meant to be genuinely close to) it's pretty clear they were exceptionally close. The scene just before that in Fear to Tread also has them bantering in a way we've not seen any other primarchs act... they seem like actual brothers.

It has been established since Horus Rising that Sanguinius and Horus were the closest of the brothers. They are the only two Primarchs noted to have spent considerable amount of time together in personal council, but whenever we see those conversations they are discussing their own nature and purpose. For instance, Sanguinius knows his mutation makes him to far apart from mankind, and it determines the way he acts, willingly playing the role in spite of the deeper flaw that he was gifted with. Horus knows he is prideful and that could be dangerous and Sanguinius understands that too.

I think there was a missed opportunity in Fear to Tread to reveal Horus' betrayal to Sanguinius, and largely it stems from the fact only A D-B and Dan Abnett are willing to show Primarchs being consumed by emotion (Lorgar on Monarchia and Horus after the sabotage of the Hall of Device, respectively). The fight between Horus and Sanguinius is (in M2C verse) the Anakin vs Obi-Wan fight, but sadly also suffers from the same problems as the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan fight.

Some emotional conflicts require the writers to be at their absolute best, and that is hard to come by in franchises. These kind of scenes should bring us to tears, yet sadly we are inundated with paragraph after paragraph of Bion Henricos, John Grammaticus, and other nobodies that rob us of the chance to have the emotional connection with the background.

Edit: For example, one of the most heart wrenching scenes I've ever watched wasn't a TV show or a movie, but the Halo Reach trailer when the dude grabbed the nuke and flew himself into the alien space ship. That kind of stuff just has to flow and have the right kind of timing or it doesn't feel as important or cheesy, like the guy blowing himself up in the Dawn of the Dead.
