Working towards a 2000 point Raven Guard force, but occasionally the mood strikes me to paint a different colour. Unfortunately these guys are not in order. I started with the regular scouts, then snipers, then the tactal squad. Took a break from black and painted an Ultramarin, which was fun to try something different.

Back to black I painted the Termies and tried a different skin tone, which looks odd compared to the other bare heads but it was a valuable learning experience.
After the fun I had with the ultra, i decided to paint a unt of Raven Guard, followed by a single figure from a random chapter, so I painted up a dark angel vet.
Currently  i'm working on a standard dread and a drop pod, and am pondering my next random chapter. I'm thinking probably something bright, from a white undercoat.
I used SCC's awesome black tutorial for the Raven Guard black, and applied the same technique to the other chapters but with different colours, although i work  to a slightly brighter  highlight now as i really love the eavy metal look on space marines and its what i'm ultimately trying to emulate.
Would be great to get feedback, Cheers.

@Lord Doyok, Thanks,  yeah its become more apparent to me that with Raven Guard being very stark, its essential to get the emblem on there. I do have some good news though.

Your comment stuck with me and whilst waiting for glazes to dry on my dropp pod interior, i started to practice freehanding it and i'm fairly close. I'm probably not going to freehand all the marines as it will most likely drive me insane but i'm going to attempt to add some freehanded symbols on the Dread and Pod i'm working on. My friend will be bringing his camera over sometime this week so i'll show you how they've come out.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

@xenith, which one? both are fairly old. I checked out your thread in the WIP, great stuff. I am digging that rhino bigtime. Thanks for looking

Loooong ago I did a tutorial on RG freehand. It may not look exactly like a RG insignia, would be handy though - easy RG

Now my freehand insignia looks much better than that, but that's where it all began.

For Rhinos and Drop Pods, I tried freehand but it didn't turned up good. So I printed a copy of the insignia, attached it to a plastic cover and cut out a stencil. With the stencil, I then traced outlines on the Rhinos and start painting. This is how they turned out in the end. Nice isn't it :) Notice how different was the quality between the clumsy freehand at the front armour, and the one on top that was drawn with a stencil?

Hope it helps.

The fist pumping one, absolute classic! The fact I think the robed one is newer just shows how long I've been into the hobby... The sculpt for fisty is probably well over 16 years old, while the robey one is more like 10.

Thanks for the look - Do you mean the predator annihilator or the vindicator? I haven't posted a rhino!
