Do Grey Knights need Allies (for friendly / non-tournament)?

I'm almost done with building / painting my complete Chaos / Renegade IG detachment (yes, heresy being in this sub-form, I know), short of a couple of large Apoc models, and I'm starting to think about starting a new detachment / project.

 

So, had some questions about the GKs:

 

For a non-tournament (more friendly play) list of about 1850 points, can GKs do reasonably ok without Allies?

 

I'm thinking just HQ, GK Terms, GK Strike, GK Purg, LR, Raven, Nemesis and maybe some minor Inquisitor Henchmen or Assassins?

 

I'm not looking for a power-build but at the same time I don't want to be steam-rolled by turn 2, even if in friendly play.

 

Someone was saying given fewer models and fewer heavy weapons on the board, GKs may need Allies, but then I was thinking Henchmen could probably fill that gap with Cotaez?

 

If they really need Allies then I'll probably consider a different Codex for my next project.

Red Hunters, Imperial Guard, Tau and Necrons all make admirable Allies for us. Even with Allies though, I don't think we're a top-tier army. We'll stomp terrible lists like always, and do well against balanced stuff, but the truly cancerous power-builds destroy us.
