Wolfguard or Blood claws?

Apologies if this topic has been covered previously. I've read a fair few bits about each unit type but not seen much in the way of a comparison. I am trying to figure out what the benefits I'd get with running 15 blood claws over 10 bare bones wolfguard.

I ran some basic numbers for 10 WG, on the charge, against basic stats (3+ save, T4 etc). I then ran the same for 15 blood claws (without any special weapons). It seems to me that statistically speaking you're looking at the same number of wounds for both units.

So (forgetting that BC are troops) I'm trying to decide what are the benefits of taking BCs over WG? Looking at price you're paying 45 points more for the same number of attacks with BCs. Plus, after round 1 you're BCs are dropping to 2 attacks, whereas the WG can maintain a base of 3 giving them better staying power. The need to take a wolfguard or IC with a BC pack to stop them running off is also an added cost. THat said, a couple of bonuses of the BCs may be that you're geting 5 more wounds for the extra points and the option for 2 free flamers.

Does anyone have any expereince running WG units like this? Or, maybe I'm just over simplifying it and making a comparison where there isnt one.

But my point is 10 WG do the same as 15 BCs for less points. You can also take a landraider as a dedicated transport for them so the same effect can be achieved. Maybe I'm turning it on it's head, suppose you could argue that for just 45pts more you get an extra 5 wounds

Meeh, just that 15 marines are harder to kill than 10 of them. Still WG are much more heavy hitters with all the possibilities you can arm them. I think, that BC block is just a good tar pit unit, especially with 2 flamers and a priest.

Still, for competitive games I would not bother taking them.

Honestly... neither. I generally only take Wolf Guard as Terminators and Pack Leaders, as a squad they can easily become a points sink and for the cost I'd rather take more Grey Hunters who can at least score.

Blood Claws however are an option I take from time to time in a large squad filling a Crusader, with a pack leader and two flamers they are a fairly effective shock assault unit and as troops they are scoring and can really help push enemies from objectives and hold them down while my Grey Hunters move up in support. While they are not as effective as Grey Hunters the larger pack size does account for something IMO, 16 marines is a hard block for many opponents to shift.

I guess I've been underestimating the fact that the numbers can overwhelm an opponent or atleast force them to focus on containing them. I have little expereince using BCs and tend to only really use WG as you do Vash (though with the addition of 'as a combi-bomb').
