Help needed with IG idea

Cod

Recommended Posts

I was given some cadian boxes for xmas and havent done anything with them. Had originally planned on using them as allies for my DA. Now the Imperial Knights are here.

How do you think a small force of IG using the Dkok siege list would go with Imperial Knights as allies?

So, Concept = PDF or knight world defence detachment rather than Imperial Guard army.

List choices:

Command squad

Infantry platoon with Heavy weapon squads

Combat engineers

Grenadiers

Heavy weapons platoon (behind ADL with quad gun)

LRBT or LR Exterminator (1, maybe 2)

Death rider squad (to keep up with and support the knights)

Imperial knights x 2

Do you think this would be a small fun force to play with?

Would the Death rider squad be a big plus?

It does have room to expand if I get that far.

I think it's too early to say for sure, and I'm no expert on Krieg lists but I think it's safe to treat a Knight as sort of like a deathstar in that it's a single unit of killy-death-toughness. I wonder if you might be better off taking one and spending the other points on more units to support it?

You are probably right!

From what's been discussed lately most imperial players are talking bout taking at least 1 knight as an ally. I'm expecting most opponents to take something to counter that, but with 2 knights, in a relatively smallish game, might be another thing. Well we will see. Especially if a knight codex and other variant knights appear in the next week or so.

Thanks for the feedback!

A Land Raider should have good reason to be used in a list, and given that Knights are considerable more expensive... I don't like putting too many points in a single unit generally, preferring to spread them around for more use but on the other hand you've seen the Knight model right?

So that's why I think taking one Knight is a good compromise, performance aside it'll definitely be looking awesome! :D

I don't think the Dkok list is really all that to be honest. It is possible to get quad guns in a standard list using the FW book it's in. I can't reference the exact one off the top of my head, but they are legal in a typical guard army these days.

Combat engineers can be worked into a standard guTs army by using demo charge special weapon teams with flamers/demo charge or even veterans would do the trick, filling those troops spots nicely!

I don't feel the krieg list is much cop nos the special units are available for most standard guard armies these days. May be worth going for some standard infantry platoons and some veterans or special weapon teams as backup.

Wheeled autocannon chimeras also look amazing if you were considering mechanised veterans as combat engineers...

Best shut up now, I'm almost convincing myself to start a new army!

To steal an oft-used phrase from the Heresy guys: Part of the crew, part of the ship. Part of the crew, part of the ship...

I believe the book you're looking for might be the Imperial Armor One: Second Edition.

In regards to Russes, do you want plasma, or long-range anti-tank/marine? You can take sponsons without penalty in the Executioner, but not the normal Russ.

Have you thought about artillery? I'd be happy to help in regards to that!

Thanks again Imperial Guard fans for advice!

So if the Dkok list is a lil over-rated...

The thought of vets and/or stormtroopers do sound good for troops.

Tanks like executioners with sponsons were interesting to me, able to shred infantry. But, plasma always appeals to DA players!

Hadn't really thought too much about artillery as I don't have the models and maybe the knight with repeating cannon is heavy mobile artillery?

Well as I'm not in a huge hurry and we keep edging closer to the new IG codex, maybe I should wait and see what changes happen.

It's hard though as I got lots of ideas rattling round my head now.

That's a good idea, the Knight stuff is still at the rumour stage currently so waiting until that pops out properly is a good starting point. Then you can go from there with your Guard ideas, but there's nothing stopping you from painting up some troopers while you wait smile.png We are as always ready and eager to talk Guard (some might say a little too much...) so don't forget to keep us updated if you have more musings or some models to show off biggrin.png

Compared to the regular IG lists, DKoK are more expensive, have some different options, can take tanks as Troops and have slightly tougher infantry (Die Hard, Iron Discipline, and +1 WS) but their Troop infantry can't take transports or heavy weapons.

Fluff-wise, DKoK fought alongside lots of Titans at Vraks so Knights should similarly fit in.
