Jolemai
Today's question comes from the Defeating a Super-heavy Walker thread: Would a Vindicare Assassin's Shield Breaker Round work on an Imperial Knight's Ion Shield? From Codex Grey Knights, page 53: Shield Breaker When a wound from this round is allocated to a model, that model loses any invulnerable save granted by an item of wargear immediately, and for the remainder of the battle. Remaining saves (if any) may still be takenThe query is because of the word wound, as an Imperial Knight can only take glancing and penetrating hits and some feel that this would stop a Shield Breaker round from working. Grey Mage
Technically, it doesnt work.Would it be a reasonable house rule? I suppose its worth playtesting. Gentlemanloser
Does the Vindicares Hellfire round work on a Knight? It wounds on a 2+. If it doesn't, then the shield Breaker won't work either. And you're left with only the Turbo Penetrator. Jolemai
Personally, I would say that the Hellfire round is different from the other two, but I understand what you are getting at. So basically, this query is pretty much cut and dry? Iron Father Ferrum
Pretty much, yeah. 40K has differentiated between the To Wound roll and an Armor Penetration roll since at least 3rd Edition (when I started playing). Another example of this is from Rending; 6th Edition wording of the Rending rules states on a to wound roll of a 6, the shot becomes AP2. Thus, if you Rend against a vehicle, that shot still carries its base AP value and no bonus is added to the damage chart roll.
