Fast Skimmers being Assaulted

Evening,

When a Doom Scythe has moved flat out, and a unit assaults it, does the assaulting unit still hit on 3+ considering the vehicle's WS1? Or does a Fast Skimmer moving Flat out increase the to hit roll for any reason? We do not play by Eratta as it just infuriates the both of us (with good reason) so we are going by codex and rulebook only. We finished the game, allowing the terminators to hit on 3+, but want to be sure for future reference that there are no defenses for the Scythe. Logically, it's flying across the battlefield, so it should be harder to hit, right? So far, page 76 of the Dark Vengeance rulebook states that:

FIGHTING THE ASSAULT

...all vehicles are treated as WS1, provided they moved, otherwise they are WS0.

Paraphrased of course, so I don't get in trouble. As of now, 3+ was correct, unless one of you can find something to prove against it.

Thanks in advance!

When a Doom Scythe has moved flat out, and a unit assaults it,

It's a flyer; you can't assault it in the first place.

Did you mean one of the barges or arks?

If so, then no, it doesn't change things. Vehicles are either WS 0 or 1.

A fast skimmer is still a vehicle.

In Close Combat:

- Vehicles are hit automatically if they stay still

- Count as WS1 if they move, regardless of how far/fast they do move.

- They cannot be attacked at all in Melee if they are a zooming flyer

- They are hit like Infantry if they have a WS value (Walkers)

There is no advantage to moving quickly (on the ground) when it comes to getting hit in combat, one inch is as good as 12 or even 18.  Imagine the Ray-like monster in the underwater scene from Pacific Rim and that's pretty much what happens to a skimmer that gets hit in combat.

yeah it still seems a bit odd.  I mean I cant image a sqaud of imperial guard trying to punch or even chainsword a moving speeder.  Seems like a rule revision is in order

Why would he do that? Vehicles have at least AV 10. With S3 and a CCW he can't do anything against that. Or am I missing something?

Which is why the Guardsman drops a Krak Grenade into an air intake as the skimmer goes past - and boom!

6th edition may not be a perfect rule-set, but many in-game events can be justified with a little imagination.

Those that can't usually demand a house rule, and that's what your gaming club should be able to provide.
