Fantastic work Fib, I hope you're proud because you should be!

I will be adding it to my new ideas folder if you don't mind for inspiration when I start devising my Knight House colours. I must also curse you though Fib, you're really not helping my plan to refrain from purchasing one until I clear my decks! laugh.png In answer to your question: the other thing you burn is xenos tongue.png

I disagree, it's better than average. The colours are good and the white looks nice - I don't think I'd be brave enough to do such a large amount of it :P I especially like your use of the SoB transfers - looks very heraldic. Don't worry, I looked quite closely so I've noticed all the details ;)

Can you fill me in on what you did with the base? For example the colours you painted the sand and the grass? Getting the right colours for bases has been something I've not been great on.

The base is mostly cheap craft paint. First painted burnt umber. Then coated with a lightly thined layer of Elmer's (aka PVA glue) and sprinkeled with sand of your choice -- this is a mix of Woodland Sceneic's coarse balast and frac sand smile.png I am in the middle of the Texas oil fields after all. But any way ...

Top with another thinned down glue to hold it all in place. Then paint with a burnt umber thined 2 parts water to 1 part paint. Dry brush with a medium brown (Brown Sugar) and finally dry brushed with a light beige-ish brown (Linen).

The fallen column pieces are painted Codex Grey then given a brown wash -- Agrax Earthshade would work but I used the burnt umber from the craft paint and thinned a left over bit to about 10 to 1. Dry brush Fenris Grey then Ulthuan Grey.

The grass is GW's scorched grass.

Edge is Valejo's German Grey

Please remember that we have a diverse community here and that we all share one thing in common: our love for the Emperor's most righteous Sisters of Battle (and how they may engage their loathsome foes). While we may at times disagree with one another, it's important to always be mindful that the things we may say can carry more of an edge than we might realize, that ad hominem and directed responses are not constructive, and that mutual respect for one another is the hallmark of the B&C. <3

++ EDIT. Reopening thread post-review. t++

Thanks Fib, all my armies have a base scheme currently but a new opportunity will open up when we get plastics and I paint up a new scheme biggrin.png I also second the request for a close up of the left shoulder!

The back half of the left shoulder is another Imperial eagle just like the right side. I'll take another shot of the left when I get a chance but I still have a couple of honey-dos to finish off first.

Thanks again Fib, it's good to be reminded that sometimes the simple ideas can be just as good as a fancy technique smile.png I just need to dig out my transfers for heraldry ideas if only I could find them. I've dozens and dozens of them, you'd think they'd turn up easier tongue.png

I finally got myself a Knight!

I'm going to paint it in Ecclesiarchal colours and present it as a Freeblade who is really into the Emperor and the Imperial Creed. I have plenty of Sisters water transfers to help the look along too, since I rarely bother with those on anything else.

I'm thinking the big super melta version would be best, and also stay in theme with the "Holy Trinity".

So I guess the question here is have those of y'all who run Knights with your SoB developed any insights about this now that it's been out awhile?
