Todays thought about IG

I'm sitting at work bored and tired, which is a strong reason not to post anything. But I don't see any Commissar around so the coast is clear. My mind keeps wandering to Guard.

Is it just me or have the activity on our beloved subforum gone down, I guess this is the calm before the storm(new Codex). The new Codex will bring us new Conscripts, hopefully as dedicated to Guard as us. And maybe even support us in reaching our highest goal in the ETL III. Yes the magical 100%. My gut feeling telling me that this year we are going to make it, and that feeling alone ignites a fire of motivationyes.gif .

And on the subject of painting challenge. There are some members here that feels strangely drawn to power armour, I guess to them Guard isn't warm and cuddly enoughlaugh.png So I was thinking we should let them have a chance to try to catch up in an expansion. We are the only sunforum that hasn't gone through one yet. I think the month of October or November would work great, as long as a moderator approves of this. I volunteer to run this event if no one feels they have to. And that banner will fit nicely next to the one that says 100%devil.gif

How do you solve the transportation to a game with all those vehicles? There must be a better way then mine. I use large candy boxes stacked in a hockey bag. Please tell me there are a better way.

And lastely(old news) FW has made some awesome heads that I must purchase. When I put them on my Cadian styled army, they will change apperence. So I have now found my new Veteran look. I call them the Ghosts of Sviarsmile.png

Things come and go, this week has been a little quiet but that's fine. The wise man speaks when he has something to say msn-wink.gif Everyone is either busy with life or hopefully busy working on their Guard! My day at work is boring too, a mix of the Friday feeling and the fact I'm having to sort out other people's mistakes (no changes there then).

I'm not entirely sure what the expansions are, having only participated in our glorious inaugural ETL II crusade. Is it a sub-forum's own little painting competition? I'm currently lying in wait for the ETL III and most importantly trying to finish my current painting projects. I've decided to complete all current projects before getting a Knight... it might take a while but if the awesomeness of a Knight can't inspire me to finish all these projects nothing will laugh.png

I mostly use the GW cases, the pluck-foam being great for Guard vehicles as they can be a little larger. Otherwise I like boot/shoe boxes. They tend to be a good size and are secure when closed, and a bit of bubble wrap and spare foam from the plucking makes for a safe trip. Having a kitbag or two also helps as they're nice and spacious and come with carrying handle options for safer journeys and manhandling. It's mostly a case of secure packaging and being suitably sensible when transporting them I find, I rarely have to deal with any damage smile.png

Last but not least, the FW respirator pack is great for Veterans. I've got two of them and they great for sprucing them up or for dotting the odd bit around on regular troopers for some variety. I think I've used most of them now, so maybe I should look to FW again for more Guard stuff once we get our new codex?

Hang on, almost got carried away with more plans again... :P

Well, for transporting my IG army, I use Battlefoam carrying cases. Barring that, I typically use a box that one of the tanks came in, and cram as many as I can in there.

Once the ETL III comes around, I do plan on staying with the Guard (especially if their name changes. I'm staying with Guard!)

I get the feeling that we're all holding our collective breaths where the new codex is concerned, and personally am hoping that our venerable Russ chassis gets a little buff that makes Lumbering Behemoth valid again! I'd like to take plasma cannons on one of those darnit!

I myself only look at the forum every few days now. My interest maybe cooling quite a lot. I am waiting for Da-Waaagh forum to be fixed, it shared server space with the B&C and wasn't fixed or upgraded when the B&C went down last year. I like to read what like minded people post. Here and over their.  My contribution to the war effort this year might not be too large but I have an army to finish, I feel I am about half way their , and their support.  I pushed a lot of points last time in small costly units but I expect to paint more mini's for less points this time around. The Green skins have held my attention for a few months now and I have had that army scene 1999 and want it complete before it's been 20 years...

I am sure the masses will fall into formation to give the hard road a try once the new manual er.. codex is new again.

With luck we will have a few that want to reup for the long haul once the new has worn off.

My contribution to the war effort this year might not be too large

Even so, "not too large" in uber terms is still probably quite a lot for everyone else laugh.png

I'm glad to hear of comrades hearing the call to battle for ETL III. I've lots of infantry that still needs doing but given their small points value and the fact I'm a rabid treadhead I'm hoping our new codex can set me up with some more armour. Failing that there's a chance super-heavies might be ETL valid thanks to Escalation..?

Follow me if I paint, kill me if I quit and avenge me if I fail! tongue.png

I have not been around much as I took some of my sons orks with me to paint when I was on the road. Life events have precluded any kind of 'fun' time recently and I am hoping things slow a little bit here soon. I have a bunch of partially completed minis waiting for a burst of time and energy to bring the emperors hammer to the table.

I have a tool box for the vast majority of my vehicles...need another now with the inclusion of my SH contingent and will have to figure something out to carry my 3 flyers. I am thinking about selling my True Scaled wolves to fund my desire for a 1 bag to fit them all and continued desire for new minis to paint and assemble.

I think an ETL in the fall would work for me and I fully recognize I am a flake at times ;) Darn real life getting in the way of my hobby. I had the idea to have a full army done for the last codex and as the new dex looms I recognize I may have one done......... maybe.:)

It has been pretty quiet of late. I've personally just been plugging away at my army and agonizing over the army list I'll bring to the tournament. I really ought to do some playtesting but I don't have any friends locally who play after my two buddies moved away -- guess I need to get to know some guys at the local gaming store and try to set up some matches. I am very superstitious about playing with unpainted minis though!

I was planning an IG ally contingient to bring some artillery support to my CSM lists. However, once I got my hands on the first packs of FW renegade guard parts and started writing my fluff, I now plan a full IG army that my CSM can ally with. :)

Thus, until the new Codex is released, I have been buying up troops and the odd vehicle, but not assembling them until I have something in hand that will tell me how many should be carrying what special weapon, or to what configuration I want build that Chimera or Valkyrie.

As far as any painting competition goes, so long as the scheduling doesn't conflict with a Call of Chaos, I intend to participate.

Always paint your army, lest the offended model spirits turn against you - and collecting is for other armies. With Guard it's more of a way of life laugh.png

Let us take Nico's fine example and dedicate ourselves to painting our troopers biggrin.png When in doubt; paint Guardsmen. You'll always need more of them msn-wink.gif As usual I am busy tomorrow, but I will be back with paintbrush in hand Sunday. Hopefully I can have a little more to show for Monday smile.png

I'm sitting at work on a Friday afternoon in what is almost a vacant building. My Commissar bailed at noon, most of the officers left shortly so we chose to not see the privates leaving early as well.

Since I just started sneaking in form time to time I will have to defer to your opinion on that. But what happed before I came does not matter.

And on the subject of painting challenge. There are some members here that feels strangely drawn to power armour, I guess to them Guard isn't warm and cuddly enoughlaugh.png

Well ... yeah. My Sisters of Battle are all about warm and cuddly. Or is that bondage and flames. eh, whichever

How do you solve the transportation to a game with all those vehicles? There must be a better way then mine. I use large candy boxes stacked in a hockey bag. Please tell me there are a better way.

There is an officialy "carry case" thread somewhere around here. (here ya go: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/133674-the-carrying-cases-thread/?p=1110512 ) My persoan favorite is Battle Foam but I think the most popular is KR Milticase with Sabol Army Transport close behind.

And lastely(old news) FW has made some awesome heads that I must purchase. When I put them on my Cadian styled army, they will change apperence. So I have now found my new Veteran look. I call them the Ghosts of Sviarsmile.png

I never knew you could order a little head through forgeworld ... whistlingW.gif

For carrying models I have one of the GW cases that holds about 120 infantry but that filled up really quickly. I also have two cases I made myself on the cheap. Will probably make one or two more of the Mk.I type soon (one for IG, one for Slaanesh). For tanks I kept the cardboard boxes a couple of them came in, glued sponge to the inside surfaces, made some loose sponge spacers for inside and Bob's your father's uncle: two Chimeras snug in one box.

As for progress, I'm finishing off my PBS. After that I might prep for the ETL3: clean up and undercoat a load of infantry and other models. Get whatever new releases I buy to a similar state and be ready. :)

You guys are fantastic. I look forward to ETL 3 as well. My punishment for starting a project and not getting it done. And regardless of weather or not my vow is accepted I will paint and run a wip thread along side the rest of you. Hell I would even settle forhalf the poits value as I have gotten nearly half way already. fair is fair.

I need to hurry up and find loaders for my artillery.

A long time lurker and dweller in the shadowly reaches of the forum (since way back in 2004 I think) I for some reason decided to sign up today as I saw this thread. Odd indeed. Either way, I just thought I should sing some praise to the carrying cases from Battlefoam. I bought their fairly large Air Pack about a year ago after much back and forth (it is expensive) and have rarely been more pleased with a purchase before.
Mine is custom built and I can comfortably fit two armies into it without a problem. (Both my Black Templars and Old Guard army) That includes 3 fliers, a land raider, ample space for russes, rhino's, artillery and the 80+ hoard of guardsmen. And nothing ever seems to break in it O.o

I would love to participate in the ETL as I have buckets of guardsmen waiting to be finished for my new Harakoni Warhawk project. But does anyone know when it is starting?

As for the Forgeworld upgrade pack I can warmly recommend it. I use it for my Harakoni project and together with some green stuff, random bits and backpacks for everyone it gives the normal Cadian models a very different look I feel. Well worth the investment.

I guess welcome to the forum isn't quite the right thing to say, since you've been with us for a while Warhawk Shizu, but welcome to posting and to the Imperial Guard forum! Great to have you with us and I look forward to your contributions to our discussions.

I can't remember when ETL takes place though. Is that the one that's in the summer, or is it the one after Xmas?

If I remember correctly, it started in may, went through august. Plenty of time to build/paint!

And for that upgrade pack... I like it, though putting guns to bodies was quite a hassle! Heck, some of my better models came out of that pack, and have served me well over the past few years.

i'm mostly occupied with my internship during the day and spend most of my evenings on horseback, however, i did get a game in and some painting last week! if a painting contest happens somewhere in august/september i might just joing up! still have over a 100 guardsmen to paint/repaint and a few tanks!

:)...so happy to see all this love and interest for the humble guardsman.

Its one of our first nice days here in months and I am torn from an hour or 2 painting or doing work on the house before the next wave of projected winter weather sets in...

gonna prime some stuff to work on :)

Cheers gents

Welcome to membership Warhawk, another trooper is always welcome here biggrin.png The ETL III doesn't have a specific date yet, it depends on when the esteemed Captain Semper declares the gates open so to speak. We're all hoping that it's after our new codex so we can get our grubby mitts on new models, which the rumour mill is a little quiet on currently. I'd say mid-year as a rough guess currently?

Kier does raise a good point though, assuming the ETL III rules don't change assembled or undercoated models are valid starting places for a vow, so enterprising comrades may prepare for the war effort in advance... It would make a huge difference for our cheap but numerous infantry models!

We will forgive you if you ride to GW's HQ in Nottingham and demand new Rough Rider models laugh.png

I've boarded the eurostar in horseriding clothing before! now with all the WWI commemorations we can only hope they include some nice cavalry honoraria and that some important chap at GW remmembers the roughriders and GW decides to finally give them the models and rules they deserve!

<p>been watching this thread since it was first put up and mostly been pondering what to actually write. i'm glad you've started it sviar. i do agree we are less topic filled than the other sub-forums, but i'm fine with that. if anything, i find this the most civil of the sub-forums, despite some of our diverse views on the most human of armies (and trust me, i frequently go in the chaos sub-forums where its almost a free for all and they had a complaint thread for our CSM codex). for that, i think we have garnered a great diversity in fellow hobbyists that appreciate and enjoy the hobby as much as each other. i also feel there is a certain hardcore element to this (the youngest) of sub-forums that also mark us out. in that i mean we have our veterans but we also welcome anyone who sheds their power armour and dons the human feeling fluff aspect of the hobby. i genuinely mean it when i say that i'm proud to be part of this sub-forum - we are making the most recent part of the B&C's great history, and in a few years when the ETL31 has come to pass (tongue.png just kidding, or am i?) then we can look back and say 'why didn't we get 100% in that year' or 'man, remember when we used to feed leman russes into havoc squads just for shielding an objective' (please note this is all meant in jest). i tip my hat off to you gents - it's an honour and a privilege to be serving and making history alongside of you.thanks.gif
as for how i carry my models to battle - i have a GW carry case and a few shoe/battleforce boxes that are pressed into service to transport my minis. if they're not in those, they're in the top of my wardrobe being protected from my cats and puppy.

edit: and where are my manners? welcome aboard Warhawk Shizu. we hope you enjoy your stay on the B&C and if you need any advice just ask away.
